I think I need to do something "drastic" to jumpstart weight loss again. My sweet tooth is reloaded with lots of energy! Do you think Atkins will do! The sugar cravings are horrible! HELP!

Clair_Joy I absolutely think Atkins will do it. The first thing you loose on Atkins is the Cravings for sweets. It takes about 3 days. You will then start having more energy that you ever hoped for. I'm on day 4 today, but I have done it before and it really does work. Also, you can have Sugar Free jello with Heavy Whipped Cream, just make the whipped cream yourself with Splenda instead of sugar.

If you don't want to give up carbs forever(except veggies) you could try the South beach diet. It also gets rid of those cravings, in about the same time as atkins. Your choice, but atkins isn't the only option. You get to eat a lot more fat with atkins, so if thats what's important to you, you might go with that, but remember that you have to be oh-so-strict when on atkins or the weight will jump right back on. For the first two weeks on South Beach you cut out starches like potatoes, bread, dairy, and anything with refined sugar, and fruit, then after two weeks you can slowly introduce whole grains, low gi fruit, sweet potatoes, and even dark chocolate and red wine. FOr me, atkins is too restrictive, and I can't stick with it for the long haul.

Thank you both for your comments. I've got one Atkins book, but I don't have any on South Beach. I need to do a little bit more research.

Yes, I have the biggest sweet tooth. I have to disagree w/ those 2 diets. They may help in the beginning but once you have that one little dessert or candy bar you gain the weight back. I do think splenda is a great alternative. I make low calorie, low fat, sugar free desserts for diabetics all the time. Let me know if you want any recipes.
