Happy Sunday! Been talking a lot to friends lately, who have families. A number of them have autistic children. I am, for the first time, embracing my old age, as an asset, and also the fact I have no children. It reminds me of a "Twilight Zone" episode, that I really enjoyed. Robert Redford, who is now retired officially, this week, was in his first part as an actor playing a part called, Dr. Death. A very elderly woman, believes there is a man who comes, when it is time for people to pass on. She has boarded herself in her house, so as not to meet him. Redford, an attractive man, manipulates her to let him in. She is immediately petrified, that she will die. He says,"Why are you so afraid of death?" "Take my hand!", and as she does, he says, "See, there was no reason to be afraid." "You see, no shock","no engulfment", "no tearing asunder!" "What you thought would come as a thunder, came as a whisper."

I was totally oblivious to dying before my daughter was born. Now, I really want to stick around for her as long as possible.

Thanks, good points. I have a Mormon friend, who has 7 kids, and he says climate change is a joke. So I'm thinking, wow and here I am worrying about the future.

I have kids. I had them late - at age 39, 40 and 42. Now I'm delaying retirement to make sure my husband and I can finance our youngest child's education all the way through. So when I talk to friends and family members who are in their 40's lamenting not being married and/or having kids, I encourage them to do as you do - embrace what they have. I like being a parent, having kids, but could definitely see myself enjoying being childless, even unmarried, at this point. And Warrenwinter what do you mean " embracing your old age"? You're only 4 years older than me. I don't plan to be old in four years. Sheesh.

Well, I was trying to avoid a political message here, but I wanted children, like any other family. I first, married a woman, who already had children. I wanted my own, and even divorced to attempt to have my own, but it didn't happen. The fertility doctor was real blunt. He said do you really want to go broke attempting to have children. His suggestion was to forget it. We took his suggestion. I have many married friends with many different situations. Full nest, is a pervasive problem in America today. I have seen some awful situations, as a teacher, and some of my friends I DO NOT envy. Politically, I see a very rough period, at a time we need critical guidance. I have spoken with many lately about their ongoing fears. I also just had a bout with cancer, that I realize, could become an ongoing problem. I am in good health, but who knows. Thanks for sharing your situation. Believe me, I understand. You LOVE your kids, but you want the best for them. I really hopes it all works out the BEST for you. THANK YOU so much for sharing. I appreciate it.

I remember one of my teacher friends, who came to my wedding, had just retired, and she passed away, her first year of retirement. I have also lost many close friends at young ages.

Well, if I knew know, what I didn't know then, I'm not sure I would have had a child. I'm truly happy he's here, but what will his future hold? Or his children's? It's a scary world and things are going so fast. The state of affairs is worrysome with every thing going on. I'm happy I'm not at the beginning of my life. I apprehend what the future holds. So to people who don't have children, take comfort....

I think you get my drift, Now. One of the main reasons I have money, I realize. Is I don't have kids. One, very close friend, I have is worried her 300k she saved, is going to be blown up a number of her kids noses. Now that would bother me. It is not her fault at all, either. Her stepdaughter's kids are morons.
