Kenna Morton's Journal, 06 June 2023

I’m cleaning out my sister’s apartment and came across a box of Grapenuts. I love them but don’t buy ‘em because that high carb count isn’t really consistent with maintaining my health and weight goals. I’m going to eat this box and enjoy it. Love that nutty crunch. It says a serving is 58g (1/2 cup) but now I know that 30 gm will do me just fine. Enjoy the taste without gorging on it. Portion control and moderation. When you are eating something that you like but seldom eat, take the time to eat it slowly and savor that flavor. It takes a minute for your body to register that taste and for you to feel that satisfaction..

Love grape nuts but have not had them in years!

Years ago I used to mix them into my yogurt.

I was eating grape nuts thinking it's a minimally processed food by looking at the list of ingredients. But like you, I noticed the really high carb count and even though I'm not on a low carb diet I now avoid them.

Just noticed you said you are cleaning your sister's apartment. I hope she is okay. I know you had written she was in the hospital.

I love grape nuts, but I tend to only sprinkle them in things because of the calories. And I always weigh them in grams because wow, they pack a lot of calories in a little package.

I love a few things that are way too carby for my tastes and I do the same thing. Eat less of them. Not a serving.

I haven’t seen grape nuts in forever. It was a fun cereal to eat as a kid.

Fritzy my sister has been in the hospital for a month and will just never be able to care for herself again. She is going to a board and care facility about 100 miles from my house. Anyway, now I am packing up, giving away everything she owns. A friend of hers finally found a home for her beloved cat— I’m really glad. She always put the cat before everyone and anything else

Those were a staple at my parents house when I was growing up. Kenna I'm so sorry about your sister. There are so many emotions that go with the process you are experiencing. Big Love to You and Yours.

Childhood favorite!! Used to fill a bowl, add milk and let soak a bit, topped w sugar! Aww those were the days. But as a kid, we played outside ALL day and burned any sugar off. Plus, my mom cooked homemade, healthy meals. Cereal was just an easy snack.

Kenna, sorry to hear about your sisters declining health. I remember over the years you would post things going on with her. Sounds like she lived on the edge a lot. I know you tried to help her. 💜💜

She always considered her lifestyle and way of living and what she chose to eat and how she chose to avoid physical activity to be her choice—- without any thought or consideration as to the impact on me, the one and only person to help her. She spent 2 days in the board and care and was taken by paramedics back to the hospital. I’m moving her out of her house and driving 150 miles a day to help get her settled and dealing with paperwork. We think our lives are ours to live as we see fit, but remember your future caregivers have choices as well. Those choices are hard to make.
