Kenna Morton's Journal, 12 August 2022

My East Indian neighbor brought over one of her dishes that she makes that I had not eaten before. It is made with bunches of dill sautéed with capers, cumin, turmeric, garlic , and cilantro seeds. It didn’t look particularly appetizing, but I sautéed it this morning with my eggs and nopales and it was KILLER. A total flavor burst. I really have no idea if it was meant to be a hot meal or a salad or served cold (I wasn’t home when she brought it over) but I think it could have been served any of those ways. Anyway this is a keeper for me. No recipe— I will just have to wing it. Give it a try.

One of the keys for me related to managing my way of eating and still getting that mental satisfaction from my food choices is FLAVOR. We are almost all searching for that salty taste and we keep chasing it. Thus the popularity of chips. So many wonderful herbs out there that most of us don’t use in our daily lives can provide that taste for us. We just have to learn how to use them and be open to trying new things. People claim an addiction to sugar— that is a questionable claim, a good excuse but not necessarily true. Salt on the other side triggers those same receptors in our brain, like heroin does and is thought to be an actual true addiction. They can see that neural excitement happening on certain types of radiology imaging. DID YOU KNOW: there is a chemical added to all those chip flavorings that self destructs in 10-15 seconds leaving you wanting another. Thus the saying, BET YOU CANT EAT JUST ONE. Are you going to let “ big food manufacturing” do that to you? Aren’t you angry about that? You should be. You are feeding their pockets.

Kenna, what is this chemical that’s added to chips? If you speak of such a chemical at least tell us what it’s called so we can do our research. My daughter is a bio chemist and this is a very interesting claim. I love chips so I definitely want to know what the chemical is that causes me to eat more than one ha ha. 🤣🤣🤣

Wife9707– it’s been a while since I learned about this in one nutrition classes. Give the subject a GOOGLE and there will probably be info on it I’m sure.

With or without the chemical, most people will STILL not eat just one. Can’t completely blame the manufacturer
