I was reading a news article and came across a photographer (Jen Davis) who was overweight and has done self portraits of herself, so I googled her images and she had some pretty amazing photos. Her portraits really hit home with me as I was looking at them, the feelings of isolation and awkwardness are almost tangible. I love them because they really express what is to have those feelings of not being comfortable in your own skin. There were times when I felt huge as a house but completely invisible and I had forgotten what it felt like to experience that until I went through her photos.
My husband is naturally a thin guy who doesn't have to put much thought into what he eats and seems to put no effort into maintaining a muscular physique, so it has been difficult at times to verbally express what it is to not feel good about yourself, but I think these photos could get the point across to anyone. I especially love the one where she is sitting on the edge of the bed shrouded in a blanket with only the lower half of a toned man lying on the bed in the frame.

Me too, I once told my SIL that she was my role model, she is absolutely gorgeous inside and out and she is overweight, she has the fellas falling all over themselves because she exudes such confidence, grace, and seems so at ease in her own skin.

Jen Davis is amazing! Her work really shows the hardships some women and even men have with being uncomfortable in there skin. You feel like an outcast, and try to cover it all away.
