So in my cutting calories and not eating land meat, I've discovered THIS.
Originally made for pre/post gastric surgery, but also helps in getting extra nutrition and losing weight.

It's actually DELICIOUS. Not grainy/gritty. Not overly salty. Mixes smooth & creamy (as long as the water temp is not over 140F). Best of all, NO CHICKEN, but still has 21g of protein! Keeps the hunger pangs away, too!

I've given some to my mum to try (who had gastric bypass in 2004); she has a hard time actually remembering to eat. She's got a lot of stress so her appetite is rubbish. She LOVES this, and is ordering some for herself. (Consider me IMPRESSED because she's super picky about anything like this)

I had a sample packet of the classic chocolate flavor and added it to my coffee. Breakfast. And it was also delicious, not grainy/gritty, and mixed smooth & creamy. I'm going to order a can of that, too.

These unfortunately don't come cheap... $23USD per can (17 servings per can), + shipping. :/
But you know what, at 90kcal per serving + the 21g or protein, I'll take it! A cup of this has become my lunch (sometimes breakfast). Couple healthy snacks in between and I'm able to keep the urge to snack DOWN.

Additionally, to help fill my stomach, I've been taking Konjac root capsules and ACV capsules (also has in it: ginger, ceylon cinnamon, ginger, and cayenne pepper).

Next week (10/8) I go in for my annual with my GP. Haven't weighed myself since I last went in July, and I was at 240# then. We'll see how I've done since starting to cut calories and take the supplements, though these changes have only been since August. ♥

Any other single mums out there struggling to NOT eat what their kid leaves on the plate??

I've got a 12yo with ADD. Usually it's mornings that we struggle the most; he just doesn't want to eat breakfast. When I can finally convince him to eat something, he almost always leaves about half. And I grew up in a home where wasting food was a no-no, so I will end up finishing it. I don't even give him that much!
For this reason, I try not to eat breakfast in the morning until I get to work, that way I can figure out how much to eat.

We try to do healthy breakfasts as much as possible. Usually a fried egg on 1 Ezekiel toast with a slice of cheese and tomato, 1/2 "sausage/bacon" w egg w spinach sandwich and a fruit, granola protein bar on a day we have no time to cook. This morning it was protein power waffles. (I don't usually get waffles, but these are on the healthier side so I gave in. And because A) I'm a broke single mama, and B) they were 50% off at only $2.50/box at the grocery so I grabbed 3 boxes.)

He had 2 and I had 2 because I was hungry. But alas, while I was (of course) doing everything else, they over-toasted and he only managed to get down one dark waffle.

So I had 3 waffles this morning. I beat myself up at the carbs and over-eating. :(

H. Dorian is crawling up to my city here in the northeast corner of Florida; my 12yo boy is happy schools are closed through Wednesday, as is my job. However, because the storm is so slow-moving, I have a feeling we'll be out of work/school Thursday, too.

We'll be packing up our 3 cats and staying at my parent's cinderblock house through the storm. They have a generator, too, so we'll have at least some source of power while we wait for the electricity gets fixed. Through Irma, the power was out for 9 days. The generator was absolutely worth the money. It saved hundreds of dollars of food in the fridge/freezer, kept us cool during the hottest hours of the day, kept our electronics powered so we could keep up with news, family, friends, and power company updates.

The issue with going through loss of power during a hurricane is boredom eating, limited cooking, and the heat. We've stocked up on plenty of water and fresh fruits. My dad is a snacker, and he loves the crisps, the chocolates and candies, cakes, soda, and he loves yoo-hoo. So, they've stocked up on those things as well. It will be difficult to steer my son and I away from the junk foods at their house. We don't keep it at ours so it's not tempting.

If anything it'll just be a challenge. We're not in an evacuation zone; it'll just be a lot of wind and rain. Lots to clean up after it's all over. Yay.
