I am a 50 year old nurse that lives in St. Louis, MO. I've been overweight my entire life and have struggled with more diets than I care to admit. I decided to update my bio because things have changed since beginning my weightloss journey this last time. I started going through a medically managed weight loss program in Aug 2012 at a starting weight of 355 in preparation for the RNY gastric bypass procedure. I lost 61 pounds prior to surgery and had the surgery on 4/1/13. My recovery was complicated by a hematoma that developed into cellulitis, but I recovered after a couple weeks of antibiotics. In the first month after surgery I lost 20 pounds. It's been some getting used to a new stomach size and eating habits, but I have no regrets. I do have one thing to pass on to anyone that is thinking about having this surgery. It's not the easy way out. You still have to work at losing weight and I still hit the dreaded plateau's. You may wonder why I chose to have the surgery then? Well, I'm addicted to sugar and found myself always cheating and failing diets with sugar. This surgery has given me a blessing of making me sick if I eat sugar. I have no trouble staying away from it now.
