Current Weight

Performance: gaining 0.8 lb a week

Goal Weight

Moving to Orlando this winter with the boyfriend has been the final kick-in-the-arse I needed to get down to a finally BMI-happy me!

List of undeniable reasons to finally kick it into gear:
Hot girls in bikinis everywhere (prev relationship baggage)
clubs at night
making new friends/contacts at school
plus trying to get a job a law office -where looks can effect your success-
Hot weather=less clothes

PREVIOUSLY: I was in a bad (controlling/abusive) relationship where I gained 60 lbs.

Now I'm out- and free and happy and me again! and down 80 lbs... but I really want a BMI to be in the "normal range".

It still amazes me how after being 240lbs, I can still have "fat" days at 150lbs!

Building Muscle VS Burning Fat
@ coach, Ive always followed the cardio-first-weights-second routine because it keeps my heart rate up, but I've been recently reading about doing weights first so they get my 100%.... which of these is best/most accurate?

and the snobby trainer at the gym told me to stop using machines. While I know machines 'assist' you, I don't have hand weights at home, only a light resistance band and a 50lb resistance band. While I can replicate most exercises with my bands, machines aren't 'the devil' as the trainer says... right? (lol in hindsight that's a silly question, but maybe it'll open up the conversation to good alternatives)
@gnat, this all started when I did JM's 30day with my friend (and her hand weights). I LOVVVEEEEE the feeling of soreness the next day!! But I pay so much for my gym, and drive 30 minutes to get there, so I'm trying to utilize it as much as possible. Plus get the fastest results possible, isn't everyone lol Smile

@nimm, the reps thing totally makes sense, you know, just settling in the middle. I was skeptical about the minute difference too when I was reading that... so 'cutting' is definitely what I need... sounds like cutting is basically dieting + lifting which is what I should be doing anyways haha bodybuilders and their fancy names!

Building Muscle VS Burning Fat
1st off.... thank you sooo much for taking the time to explain all that to me!

2nd... that totally turned my thinking all around. I certainly don't want to have to bulk first, even if it is mainly muscle. Though I'm on a longterm fitness plan, in the next three months, I'm moving to a new town and starting to look for work in a very looks oriented field, so I don't want to get my weight up higher in the short term(next 6 months)...
Sounds like "cutting" without bulking is really just lifting while dieting, is that right?

End Goal rephrased: replace all my fat with muscle (minus, you know, a little tummyness here and a little buttcheekiness there.
I'm reading http://www.bodybuilding.com/fun/womans_lean_sexy_bible.htm and she's talking about different reps and where you want to be in all that. Should I be in the 1-6 or 8-12 range?
Sorry for all the questions! You just seem like such a down to earth book of knowledge and I just know this whole calorie counting thing isn't helping my body get any 'nicer' just... smaller. And I DO NOT want to be skinnyfat!

Thank you so much for your reply(after like a million non-reply views)
Yes, my goal is more 'fitness' and less weight, but I assume more muscle naturally means less fat.

Could you explain the cutting and bulking cycles more? I really really appreciate your insight!! (i <3 fatsecret for making me never feel like I'm going through this alone!)

Very Happy

edit:: thank you, btw for the 'endless cardio' plug lol because to me cardio=calories lost so cardio=god of weightloss and I got stuck in that hour-long-elpitical-love-affair trap Sad I'm trying to change my ways!

New Girl On The Block
hey misvie! I feel the same way about 'ideal weight's except for my ideal weight for my 5"1' (on a good day) height is 105 lbs! I haven't been 105 lbs since before middle school ( I was a chubster) BUT I know my body is it's best at 130. Wierd how the websites never take into account stuff like bootys (I'm keeping mine! lol) and bone size (my hip bone itself is 14 inches wide, so I can't ever go smaller than a 28.
Anyways, welcome to FS!
Young and in love I think is a common reason people are here (like me!) but that's okay! the more your man sees you transform, the crazier he'll be about you again lol Smile

good luck! Smile
