19 January 2015

Another slight uptick today, .2 lbs. Not concerned, as I know my calories were good yesterday. Came to around 1700, and I didn't have anything questionable. Means it's a temporary gain and should be going back down soon. When I gained 1.5 lbs two weeks ago it was followed by a week where I lost 4 lbs. So it's not really a setback, more of a time delay. As long as the course is followed, it eventually works out.

I ended up making homemade fish sticks for dinner last night, using some of the cod I bought. Much better than I expected. This morning we are having breakfast at Cracker Barrel, because we have a gift certificate to use and it's what daughter wants today. I'm good with that, their Wholesome Fixin's menu has good options. I'm going to get the Good Morning breakfast with egg beaters, fruit cup, turkey bacon, and grits for 390 calories. Then heading to Trader Joe's to pick up a couple of things. Lunch will be a turkey sandwich on wheat roll and a cup of soup, dinner will be salmon cake with sweet potato and broccoli. Snacks, a non-fat latte and a fruit/veggie smoothie.

Still no exercise. I keep fighting temptation, but so far I'm doing what I'm supposed to do and listening to my body. Still feeling that inflammation and discomfort in my bad hip.

A .8 lb spike today. Not surprised, after having Chinese buffet yesterday. Also had half an alcohol drink in the evening. Best estimates I could come up with on the food, I think I was probably right at my 1800 calorie limit, so all that sodium at the buffet is probably causing it and it should turn around in a couple of days. I think I did pretty well at the buffet. I had the things I like most, but in really small portions, and added some green beans. One plate. Then had a variety of fruits after. Skipped all my snacks yesterday, and wasn't hungry enough to finish my dinner.

Still feel the inflammation in my hip, so probably no exercise again today. It's frustrating, but that's the way it has to be.

Today's meals are back to all home cooked. I had an egg with avocado, toast, and a banana for breakfast. Making a homemade stir fry (pork, peppers, onion, and asparagus) with brown rice for lunch, and probably some type of fish with a salad and fruit for dinner. Skipped morning snack because I slept late and breakfast was late. Will probably have a smoothie for afternoon snack to increase vegetable and fruit intake for the day. I feel I really haven't emphasized the veggies and fruits enough the last few days.

No movement in the weight today. After dropping 4 lbs in one week though, I'm not surprised. I almost expected a tiny spike today because yesterday's drop seemed too much to me so I thought there would be a correction.

My daughter has chosen a Chinese buffet for our family restaurant outing this week. These are always a challenge. There are a lot of good foods, safe foods, to be found there. But I know I'm going to want a bit of my favorites too (sesame chicken, potstickers). After having a very good weight loss week, I'm thinking one "cheat meal" is a good reward. All my other meals today I have planned lighter, and will probably skip my snacks altogether as we are going there for lunch and I won't be hungry the rest of the day. In fact, dinner might end up being fruit. I don't plan to go crazy at the buffet, but will still consume more food than I am currently accustomed to eating at one meal. I will load up on fruits and veggies in addition to my favorites though...always working in ways to get more of those in my day. My breakfast was plain Greek yogurt with raw honey, walnuts, and a banana. No morning snack because breakfast was late and we will be having lunch before too long.

No exercise today. I'm feeling some inflammation and a pinching sensation in my bad hip...the one thing the doctor was very clear on, "do not try pushing through the pain". It's frustrating, because I'm feeling gung ho about working out, but my body betrays me. Maybe a good day to dig through storage looking for dumbbells...start doing some upper body work when my hip is acting up.

I feared a little spike this morning, as the soup for last night's dinner had a lot more fat/calories than I had planned. It did leave me so full, though, that I skipped my last snack of the evening. This morning, down .8 lbs from yesterday's weight. I'm recording it, but think I'm going to start only doing so once a week (even though I will weigh every day as my doctor requested).

When you weigh over 200 lbs, it takes a bit more weight loss before it becomes really noticeable to you. Yesterday I had my first sign....a hooded sweatshirt I just received for Christmas last month. When I got it, it was kind of baggy but the band at the bottom of the sweatshirt fit a bit snug around my hip. Yesterday I put it on...it's not catching on my hip any longer. It hangs way below. A small success, but a nice one.

Another little success. I did my 10 minutes on the elliptical yesterday, and then added 5 minutes on the stationary bike. No pain, no spasms in my hip. Hope to do so again today, but will see as I have a lot of walking to do during errands this morning. Also, what I thought was a cold coming on seems to be a sinus infection instead and I'm feeling run down.

I don't have today's meal plan complete. I usually have it done by the night before, as I don't like "winging it" if I don't have to. Breakfast is an egg with avocado and a slice of toast. For dinner, I'm picking up some type of fish at the market that I haven't tried before....one of my goals is to try new seafoods and find some I like other than tuna and salmon. Lunch I'm not at all sure...if nothing else I have soups and chilis in the freezer.

Another day down. I have little doubt now that the flaxseed was somehow causing my weight to go up....every day while I was taking it the weight crept up, and for the six days after stopping it I have dropped every day. Another .4 lbs today. I am now down 9.8 lbs since seeing the doctor on Dec 11th...and getting ever so close to my first mini goal of 230. Hoping to hit that by late next week.

I wasn't able to get my 10 minutes on the elliptical or bike yesterday. My car issues ended up eating up most of the day and by the time I finished I was way behind on everything. Thankfully I had healthy snacks with me, and then had a very late lunch. Finished the day with 1583 calories.

Today's meal plan include oatmeal (made with milk, apples and cinnamon), leftover chicken, potatoes, and green beans for lunch, and some homemade broccoli cheese soup with salad and wheat roll for dinner. Snacks will be a non-fat latte, fruit and nuts. My kitchen is badly in need of restocking, but trying to hold off until tomorrow to use up a few more things first.

Battling the beginnings of a cold, but hoping to get a little exercise in later this morning. Even 10 minutes feels pretty good to my muscles.
