I'm a California gal who's been living on the East Coast for quite awhile; have lived in quite a few cities - Houston, San Diego, Buffalo - and have relatives in the Phoenix AZ area. I & my husband are in our '50's.

I used to be very active, but have had a sedentary lifestyle for a number of years; got a wake-up call a few months ago with a blood test showing high cholesterol. I've had relatively good health all my life - I don't want a stroke or heart attack to decide matters for me - it's time to change how I deal with all of the stresses that come with everyday life.

Finish Strong!

Thinking of switching diets... what's ur recommendation?
If you want to change diets, I would recommend either the South Beach Diet, or a diet which stresses lean proteins and veggies - for a set period of time, like, say, three months. You also want to severely restrict your intake of sugars and carbs. Please read up on how insulin works, and this may make it more clear for you. Exercise helps too, the consistency being more important than exerting yourself to your limit every time.

Basically, you want to force your body into ketosis, and you want to preserve your muscle tissue as much as possible. If you simply lower calories, your body will take what it needs from your bones, and your muscle - which, by the way, includes the heart.

Medical supervision is advised, and accountability to someone is also very important.

Good Luck, and be Healthy!

over 50 and looking for a buddy
Sure, I'm over 50 & need to lose about 70 lbs. I'm new on this site; just kind of checking things out.

Live near Washington DC, but I've lived in many parts of the country, including Buffalo, NY.

LAUGHTER...
Plus, a good hearty laugh tightens the abs!

Ever notice how people look so much better when they smile?
