My weight loss this week was a nice surprise that came on the heels of a frustrating performance on an exam (I still have no idea what was wrong with me; my brain just pretty much blanked out on a couple of important concepts; by the time I got home, I had them back -- very, very annoying).

I hope to keep it going through the next week. I don't have school to force me out of the house, and this time of year I really start feeling the lack of daylight (which mercilessly saps my motivation), so I'm either going to have to find reasons to get out on the bike or I'll need to dust off the treadmill downstairs (with a race coming up on Saturday and my left knee feeling a little sketchy, I don't want to go running on the pavements).

While I don't normally take an "off season," I think this year, once school is out for winter break, I do think I'm going take a couple weeks off the bike and run instead. I'll still use the bike to get around, of course, but I want to focus on developing some better running fitness.

That will both enhance my fitness on the bike and open up opportunities for foot racing next year, which sounds like fun. I've done a couple of 5Ks, and I'd like to do a bit more of that and maybe some shorter-distance trail runs.

Chilly ride this morning -- 0 C -- but even though I couldn't find my balaclava I felt okay.

I'm glad I did the ride because I felt really tired when I got up this morning and it helped me wake up. I was worried I wouldn't be able to make the bus on time, since I left home a couple minutes behind schedule, but in the end I rode fast enough to make it with 10 minutes to go, which is fine. I also felt pretty good on the bike.

I didn't take my doxycycline last night because my stomach was way, way off. I did take this morning's dose, so I'm one dose behind now, which is typical for me (I usually forget one somewhere along the line). I will be done in two days plus one dose.

I feel like I've done nothing but eat all day: Special K Protein Plus for breakfast, Special K protein snack bar and some pretzel nuggets for second breakfast (to make sure the doxy stayed down), and now some sweet potatoes, stuffing, and a veggie wrap. On the other hand, it's mostly been decent stuff (I wish Denis liked sweet potatoes!), and I didn't eat enough yesterday due to the aforementioned Stomachic Misery :)

Still not sure about dinner tonight. Right now, I feel like I won't need to eat again until next Thursday.

I'm mostly over the sinus-infectiony mild-bonchitis thing I had, though I've got several more days of doxycycline before I'm done. The doxycycline, as it usually does, is leaving me a little fatigued. Still, I feel a lot better than I did a week ago.

We're badly in need of a grocery run around here. I stopped at the grocery store today, then realized I'd left both my bank cards at home -- d'oh. That was actually a semi-intentional move. I realized I haven't been tracking my spending very well, so I gave myself a cash allowance for my day-to-day expenses -- lunch and stuff. The problem is that we didn't get around to getting groceries this weekend, and now we're sort of scrounging.

The downside is that this makes meal planning kind of hard. The upside is that we're eating all the random stuff that's been hiding in the freezer, so when I re-stock I can do so from the ground up.

Tomorrow we're going to see War Horse, so I think we'll probably dine out. Thursday, we might to salmon. It turns out I have two salmon steaks still in the freezer.

Now I'm going to bed. Heh.
