21 April 2014

Monday back at work after Easter - I think all the parents brought in their kids extra Easter candy. What the heck - they didn't know how much they were giving them when they bought it?! Not only was there Easter candy, but a carrot cake from my favorite bakery. Made it thru the break room with just my apple. Until the afternoon when the intercom announced those dreadful words "it's time for April birthdays in the kitchen". I stayed out - luckily too busy to attend. When I went in later, there was lemon meringue pie and strawberry pie. Yummmm. Didn't have a bite. Got off work on time and went straight to the gym. Got in 30 mins on the elliptical and 30 mins on the treadmill. Even ran a couple of short intervals. I figure I'll work up to the running/jogging thing and see how I do. So, a good day overall. Hopefully, most of the candy and pies are gone by tomorrow. 🍥🍰

Went to the gum this am. A little trouble on the elliptical as the two machines I got on didn't want to cooperate. I like to increase my height of steps and it just wasn't working. So, after 18 frustrated minutes, I switched to the treadmill. I've always had a problem with shin splints so really stretched. Seems to have worked as I had no problem. Kept increasing my pace and towards the end of my 45 minutes was still feeling strong and decided to try to run (well, jog) in 2 minute intervals at 5.0. Was feeling energized and strong and thinking, maybe I can be a runner! Until the bottoms of my feet began to hurt again. I could feel the blisters start to come back. I almost pushed it just because I was feeling so good and wasn't tired, but thought better of it as I recalled last weekend when this happened and it was hard to walk for the next 3-4 days, putting a damper on my workout. I left the gym (after an hour!) and went directly to Sports Authority to check on some new insoles for shoes. While there, the sales person advised me that the shoes I've been wearing (while still good) are called cross trainers and are for things like Zumba classes and moving laterally. I needed running shoes (moving front to back) if I were going to be doing more walking and jogging. Once I tried on the new running shoes, I could immediately tell the difference in the amount of cushion they provide.

So, I am the proud owner of a new pair of running shoes, and bought some new insoles for my still good cross trainer shoes. I'm actually excited to go to the gym tomorrow!

Hope everyone is having a fabulous day!

Good morning! I haven't checked in for 5 days, which is ridiculous considering I usually try to at least log in twice a day (when I'm not locked out of the site). But, happy to say I'm still going strong! I've continued to log in food and exercise via my app. I've been stressing at work and working 12+ hour days so haven't been to the gym. BFF and I did our walk at the park on Sunday. We walked for an hour and logged a 12.3 min/mile. However, I think I need new tennies or at least new inserts and better socks as I have blisters on the bottoms of my feet! Weird cause this hasn't happened before on the treadmill, elliptical or on my walks with the dogs. I buy good quality shoes but I think it has been about 8 mos to a year since I bought the last pair. So, guess it's time. I've learned to only buy my shoes at a place where they check your arch, etc, to give you the best fit. How long are tennies supposed to last? These are Asics so a good brand. I was happy with the walk as I started to feel the shin splints but then we stopped and stretched a bit more and that seemed to do the trick. Job still entails a lot of sitting with no opportunity to get up and move around at times. Yesterday my UP24 showed my longest idle time as 2 hr 8 min. So, although I didn't get home til 8:45 pm, ate a quick bite for dinner, I still decided to do 30 mins on stationary bike. Yay me! Glad I did it, even tho it cut into my sleep time and failed on that part.

Well, enough about me - how's everyone else doing? I need to get up to speed and read all my notifications. Have a fabulous day, everyone!!!
