Well, the 5/2 plan seems to be working very well for me. I am satisfied slow and steady - about 1 pound a week. Interestingly, I see the biggest change around my middle! Yay!
I am finding this very easy to do. Mondays and Wednesdays, I record what I eat and keep the calorie count to about 25% of what I usually eat. I focus on protein and vegetables, and a few nuts. Surprisingly, I don't get particularly hungry. The other 5 days, I eat our normal, healthy meals - I suppose it is closest to a Mediterranean Diet.
While my cholesterol numbers were down overall, (with a bump up in HDLs), my doctor would like to see them down a bit more. As I had only been following the 5/2 plan for about a month before my blood test, I am hoping that continuing to follow this plan and increasing my cardio exercise will get me where I need to be.

I signed up for fatsecret when Spark People was changing its format. That was during the height of gardening season - freezing, canning, dehydrating all of the loveliness from our huge garden. Several weeks ago, I finally began a plan of intermittent fasting. Two days a week, I keep my caloric intake right about 500 calories - focusing on lean protein and vegetables. The other five days, I eat our normal, healthy foods, with a few treats thrown in.
I had heard about the 5/2 plan from a woman in her 80s who began eating this way following heart problems, and she mentioned that her doctor told her to keep doing what she was doing. So, coming up on 70, I thought I too, would give it a try and see if it makes my cholesterol numbers a bit better. Blood test on Thursday - interested to see what the results will be. I think it has been 4 or 5 weeks of 5/2, which might not be long enough to make a difference.
We shall see!
