I'm a senior female Sparkpeople refugee from Southern Illinois. I'm a retired R.N. - I worked mostly in critical care and dialysis but in other areas as well. I was thin or of normal weight until after menopause. I have some chronic medical problems, some of which are inherited. My husband was a supervisor/welder/fabricator/machinist/electrician/plumber/carpenter/mechanic/sheet metal worker/landscaper/lumberjack/maintenance man in a small manufacturing plant but he recently retired due to health problems and to avoid communicable diseases as he has reduced immunity. Most of our families are deceased and we have no family here but I have some really supportive friends that I love. We live in a very rural area in a cabin in the woods surrounded by wildlife, lakes, scenic sites. We stay busy with hobbies in our spare time. They include reading, gardening, landscaping, decorating, remodeling, pontoon boating, astronomy, mycology, entomology, bird watching, music, arduinos, photography, stained glass, woodcarving, kaleidoscope making, primitive furniture making, fiberoptics, using our spa, wildlife, nature, repurposing, rocks and minerals, finding Indian artifacts, growing our own food, self-sufficiency. I like to collect things, especially cookbooks and kitchen related items. We have both had all kinds of pets but our favorites were our chinchillas. My goal is for us to constantly be moving toward a healthier lifestyle.

Making it to 70 years old in much better shape.
I'm losing more weight again. I'm obsessing less about and relaxing a little more with my diet but I am still remaining in my carb and calorie zone. I am not cheating or eating junk though. Just trying more healthy foods in small amounts. I'm still trying to move more and am doing that consistently. My goal is about health so I can eat all healthy foods that don't trigger me if I eat them in proper portions or even less than a portion. I am less afraid of being hungry. I am trying to control my blood sugar without a glucose meter which is not easy. Maybe my doctor will be more willing to help me get one once he sees that I am serious about weight loss as it is listed as the number one thing to help my blood sugar. I have lost almost 16.5% of my body weight since mid June. In order to help my A1c I was supposed to lose around 30 pounds or 7-10% of my body weight according to everything I have read about people who have successfully lowered their A1c. So I have exceeded that and I am not done. I intend to get out of the obese range. When that occurs I will set new goals. As my main goal is health it is easy to find new ways to improve my life. I found it hard to lose weight in order to look better. I found it even hard to lose weight in order to feel better. I don't find it hard to lose weight to save my eyesight, kidneys, legs, life. I'm into this, big time.

Goals
I made it to Onederland today after over 7 months of working at it. My first goal was to lose 25 pounds. I have lost 33 now. My second was to lose 10% of my original body weight which I accomplished on December 1st. My third goal was to reach Onederland. I reset my 7-10% weight loss goal on November 11 when I weighed 213, though, as I learned I have diabetes that day so I am nearing another 10% weight loss goal soon.I want to be out of the obese range. I read a diabetic books that said most women who took control of their diabetes lost 30 pounds and maintained that loss for 5 years. So that is my ultimate goal.
