I read somewhere that your body treats alcohol as poison so it metabolizes it first as opposed to the food you are eating

yeah. alcohol is a big NOPE for me. I've never been a big drinker, and I'm actually allergic to some red wines... but all alcohol, including clean spirits causes me to retain water. On the occasion it's a nice way to wind down after a hectic day, but for the most part I avoid drinking when I am focusing hard on my program... besides - I'd rather put those treat-calories to good use, and eat chocolate or ice cream 😂

Any idea how long it takes to get back to normal. And what can I do to help with the water retention?

For me it can take between 24 hours to 3 or 4 days. I drink a lot of water and keep my meals low carb and fresh and light... My bestie who suffers from a gluton intolerance says that drinking hot water can help relieve bloating.

Alchol is 7 calories per 1g/ml so if you want to drink you have to take it from somewhere else like carbs at 4 calories or fat at 9calories or a combination. Remember weight loss is only calories in vs calories out. So if you want to drink balance it out so for instance a lite beer is 99 calories per serving so you can do the following 99/4 =25g taken of your carbs or 99/9 = 11g of fat or combination of the two 44/4=11g carbs and 45/9=5g fat so eat less with this never take it from your protein. Best is to try and minimize alcohol as it is empty calories and makes most people hungry after a few drinks and they tend to eat more. Hope this helps

Have you tried drinking Drostdy Extra light white/ Van loveren almost zero (available in white, red and rose) Or Four cousins Skinny range. Another alternative is Whiskey and water/soda. Also saw Vodka&Lime Cordial and soda
