Hi there everyone!

I am a 42 year old mother of 4 great children ages 15-26. Who has always been rather sedentary in my day to day life. I was always on the move when the kids were younger taking them from place A to place B, but I usually pulled up a lawn chair and read while they practiced their sport of the moment. And since I have always been a working mother with a long commute we usually ended up with some kind of quick meal. (Insert your favorite pizza place, sub shop, or burger place here) After many years of this I now find myself at my highest weight ever.

I have also been having some health issues over the last 18 months – 2 years. Which was first diagnosed as pre-menopause, and a sluggish thyroid. (something to blame the weight on) After I finally got around to following up with my regular doctor I found out that my thyroid was in normal range but that I was on that dangerous border line for being pre-diabetic, extremely low on my vitamin D (which I still forget to take) and in risk range of heart disease even though both my good and bad levels of cholesterol were in the better ranges.

The doctor said he would retest all my blood levels in three months before prescribing cholesterol medication. The best medicine for now is weight loss and getting off my big hiney. He was hoping for a weight change of about 6 lbs (.5 a week) just to show him I was trying. And since I plan to stick around for a long time to enjoy all my eventual grandchildren I’m hoping to walk in with a 25 lb change and to keep going until I reach 185.

You don't have to use all of them, but do be careful that you eat enough that your body does not feel as if it is being starved.

Wanna be buddies?
Good Morning, I sent Buddy request to the four of you above me. I've been on here for a while. But have been away off on over the holidays, and was slacking on what I know works. So back now and serious to get off at least another 30 lbs before June hopefully more like 45.

Hello everyone, from Cyndi :)
Hi Cyndi. I'm not new but I am doing this pretty much alone also. I did Atkins years ago with great results but chose to do a calorie count/exercise regime this time. My boyfriends DIL who lives with us originally joined and was going to 'lifestyle' change with me. It hasn't worked out that way. She tried the calorie counting and exercise for about a month and lost a few pounds, then she tried Atkins and lost a few more but she hasn't been able to maintain the lifestyle change. So I battle alone. (my boyfriends big contribution is to say 'why are you eating bread' every time I indulge in a biscuit with my meal) Sorry didn't mean to get so wordy. Wanted to say welcome to Fat Secret, I'm sure you'll make plenty of buddies on here. (feel free to add me if you like)
