Start Weight:(29 Apr 13) 158.6 lb
Current Weight:(15 May 13) 150.2 lb
Goal Weight:140.0 lb
following: Atkins
performance: losing 1.1 lb a week

Over the past 6 months, I have managed to gain 30 pounds. Specifically, I feel, is due to the fact that I quit smoking. Although I have been doing cardio exercises for the past 2 months, I have not been able to lose any weight at all. My frustration is beginning to defeat my determination. I sincerely hope that I am able to find success with this program. :)

Menopause and weight gain
I, too, have gotten discouraged with my weight loss. Never had a problem in my past and could lose 10 lbs if I needed to at the drop of a hat. Now, here I am, at 49, quit smoking and gained 30+ lbs. I've been doing the Atkins plan since August 3rd. It has taken me almost 2 months to lose 15 lbs, but at least I'm losing. I have recently joined a gym in hopes that the weight training will help me out. You see, I also found out that my BFI is around 35%...which is not healthy. So, like evelyn said, build the muscle and your metabolism will speed up. I'm crossing my fingers in hopes that it will kick me out of this plateau that I'm on.

Also, I did some reading on the Dukan Diet, and found this review: http://www.webmd.com/diet/features/dukan-diet-review?page=2

I'm sure that it does work, but I would worry about the health portion of it. Just a thought.

Coffee
OH...I also found this on the Atkins site:

Can I drink caffeinated coffee in Induction?

There's no reason to avoid caffeinated coffee (or tea), but don't overdo it. Research associates moderate caffeine intake with improved long-term health and weight control. Coffee is full of antioxidants and mildly enhances fat burning. Add cream (not milk) and any of the acceptable sweeteners above.

You can include up to two cups of coffee or as part of your daily eight cups of fluid. Caffeinated sodas are also fine in moderation as long as they're sweetened with acceptable sweeteners and you don't exceed two cups of any caffeinated drinks in a day. If you're cutting back on caffeine, you'll probably notice some withdrawal signs such as a mild headache. This reaction is normal and unrelated to doing Atkins.

Coffee
So...because I adore coffee, this question got me thinking. In researching, I found the following:

http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/caffeine/HQ00369
http://www.livestrong.com/article/109857-caffeine-fat-burning/

I also found articles which say that it is bad and prevents weight loss, specifically due to the fact that it can cause stress which increases the cortisol which promotes belly fat as well as insulin resistance. So, don't know which answer is right or wrong, but if you're having a difficult time losing, perhaps it is the caffeine. I'm thinking it might be my issue....
