Amazing turkey burger recipe that's safe and delicious for Phase 1 of South Beach.
Ingredients
Directions
- Mix ground turkey (lean if available), 1/2 cup mild or medium chunky salsa, shallots, cilantro, 3 tablespoons oil, hot sauce, cumin, salt, and pepper in large bowl.
- Shape turkey mixture into four 3 1/2 to 4" diameter patties on wax paper.
- Heat cooking spray in large non-stick skillet over medium-high heat.
- Add burgers; cook until brown, about 3 minutes per side. Do not move around burgers until they have browned or they will fall apart.
- Reduce heat to low. Cover pan and sauté burgers for 2 minutes.
- Flip, and add a slice of low-fat cheese. Cover and sauté until burgers are cooked through and cheese is melted - another 2 minutes.
- Arrange lettuce leaves on 4 plates. Top each lettuce leaf with a tomato slice and burger. If allowed, enjoy on a toasted whole wheat roll.
- Note: these burgers freeze great - just put them between sheets of wax paper and throw them on the skillet for a quick and easy dinner! Also, you can try making 8 smaller burgers for kids or portion control.

Loved it! Was really good, gave the turkey meat just the right amount of flavor, which is what I was looking for! Turkey burgers can be bland sometimes! Definitely making again!

This was awesome. My husband and I loved and even my oldest daughter who is not on SB couldn't stop eating them, even the left over's were gone after a day!

Onion and Tomato limitations are no longer an issue and two tablespoons of salsa is allowed per day in phase one under the new guidelines. This sounds great and I plan to make this tonight!

I think this woulds work fine for South Beach OR Atkins, minus the bread for atkins or level one SB.Sound good to me!

unsuitable due to combination of onions [shallots] and hot sauce. Salsa is also questionable due to whether tomato is included in it.
