German chocolate cupcakes and wildflowers
Today @bearnoggin🧸 and I celebrate the life of late Mr Bear by sharing desserts he loved. Please join us. Incidentally, @bear and I achieved our weight goals together around this time back in 2021👯♀️ #buddysystem

Brad’s atomic grape tomatoes (The Best in Show winner at the 2017 Heirloom Expo)
I fell in love with the psychedelic hues. A fussy variety to grow. The doleful foliage is always pretending to die. Turned out to be prolific, pulsating with summer flavors.

Worm compost bin before/after
No food wasted since February
In the dead of night I open the worm bin to hear the moist sound my worms make as they break down melon rinds buried under the leaf litter🪱 Hypnotic & wholesome

Cucumber avocado soup with borage blossoms
I am not a big fan of salad🥗 so I decided to chuck salad veggies into a blender to make manly soup. To increase its manliness I adorned the concoction with homegrown, indigo blue borage which evoked the image of the shirt worn by an auto mechanic who used to fix my hopeless jalopy. Skeeter was his name and he sported a spectacular mullet. He knew cars! Always surly and never inclined to make small talk. I don’t remember how he ended up telling me that his grandma added baking soda in her sweet tea. Where are those good old Skeeters now? Are they extinct?
Anyhoo. It’s been hotter than a pot of neck bones, or Georgia asphalt, or devil’s bath water🔥Stay hydrated folks, eat cucumbers to quench your thirst. If you are not a fan of salad, join me in the macho soup club🌼
Borage fun facts:
- enriches the soil
- attracts pollinators
- has anti inflammatory properties
- leaves are diuretic
- borage flowers were often depicted on embroidery jackets in the 17th century

Homegrown Cherokee purple tomatoes and bolted basil
I let some herbs bolt for pollinators. I also rarely deadhead perennials. Not pretty, I know, but they will go to seed and feed birds in winter🐦⬛ (or maybe I am plain lazy)
