I never thought I'd be able to go meatless for a week, let alone over a month. People at work have noticed and put it down to willpower. I'm the first to jump in and say "Fuck No! Nobody loves a McGriddle more than I do!" I'm able to stick to this diet because it's the easiest one I've ever been on.

I walk through the supermarket with different eyes. I can even shop while hungry. I went to Trader Joe's this weekend and noticed something odd. You know the free samples they offer? There was nothing being offered that I could eat. They were all meat and cheese products. I told the guy who had a mini lunch plate, "It looks good, but I swore off meat." and he said. "I can make you a plate of chips and potato salad." I politely declined. This is the healthier choice Trader Joe's here! They did turn me on to that fantastic Spicy Lentil Wrap!

It's when I think thoughts like that when I realize how much I've missed out on due the diet I had. A whole new world of possible choice is now opening up. I'm not limiting what I eat. I'm expanding it by leaps and bounds. My diet had so few choices before. Now I'm awake!

A new milestone was hit. This is a big one!

I've had some pants I couldn't get into for a year sitting outside the closet. I didn't toss them out, but I was getting sick of pulling them out of the closet and realizing I couldn't button them anymore.

Lately I've been having trouble needing to hitch up my jeans all the time and tighten my belts. I went for a fresh pair yesterday and I was curious if I could fit in the smaller size. They buttoned right up! I was amazed!

Reality check time. I'm talking about going from a 46" in the waist to a 44". I can remember the first time I bought 44" pants. I used to call them my bozo pants because they fit me so loose. That is no longer the case and shows me how much further I have to go. Heck, I remember back a few decades ago thinking 38" was too damn big.

I've done a lot of letting myself go in my life. I wish I could have that time to do it over again. Living with the weight has been awful. Now that it's coming off easy, I can only wonder what took me so long.

The answer of course was finding something I could stick with. Going raw or vegan or juicing was never an option I seriously considered. That seemed way beyond what I could accomplish. Heck, I tried Atkins and failed at that because I couldn't maintain an all meat diet. And I LOVE meat. What chance would I have at an all veggie and fruit diet? The world is truly upside down at times. I'm now eating things I considered nasty a month ago and digging them. Tomatoes, cucumber, eggplant, TOFU! I had a friend ask the classic "What have you done with Chris!"

Back again!

Actually I never left. I hit that sticky part of the diet. I stopped hardcore juicing and tried the Vegan thing. It ended up taking 2 weeks to finish all the stuff I had bought to try.

Tofurky Sausage was a hit, but it is high in calories and salt. I gained about 3lbs during this trial and that bummed me out. I didn't take it lying down however.

I started walking daily during weekdays. I take the weekends off. And I'm back to juicing.

My new plan is to juice for breakfast and dinner and lunch with a nice salad. I bought a $100 Green Card at Chop Stop, my new favorite restaurant. They add $15 to the card if you buy at that amount. I build my own salad with a romaine/spinach mix and a combo of chopped apples, dried cranberries, jalapenos, mushrooms, tomatoes, and red onion tossed with a light amount of balsamic vinaigrette. So super Yumm! For variety, I swap an ingredient or two. Just changing out the mushrooms for green olives made a huge difference.

Even though I haven't been recording it, I've been getting on the scale daily. I'm happy with the results so far. I know I can do this now. That's a big change from how I was feeling at the start. I've got a long way to go reversing all the damage I've done for years. Who knew you could feel so good doing it.
