I think I needed that time off from juicing. It screwed my chances of meeting my goals for Sept 17th, but it helped my chances of true lifestyle change. This taste change thing is nothing short of a miracle. I noticed some snacking tomatoes in the fridge yesterday. My meat-lover brain still says yuck. I grabbed one and popped it in my mouth. It wasn't exactly like eating grapes, but it was sorta sweet in an interesting way and not bad at all. Meat and potatoes Chris only liked his tomatoes in Ketchup and Pizza style offerings.

I just got asked how do I know I'm getting the nourishment I need. My answer was this:
The stuff I'm eating is packed with goodies. I'm better nurished now than when I was eating before. Kale, Mustard greens, Chard... These are superfoods. I'm taking a b-12 supplement which is the only thing you don't get from a veggie-only diet.
Before I was on a high-calorie, low-nutrient diet. I've flipped the script. When I pee. it's a deep rich amber. It looks like I'm chugging multivitamins.

Boom-Shaka-Laka!
Yesterday I made an attempt to replicate the veggie cocktail I found so tasty at "Da Juice Bar". Mine was way too tangy due to juicing 2 lemons. I probably need only 1/2. It made a tasty morning drink that I've been sipping away at. I downed about 12 oz which is way more than I'd normally have of a veg drink. I'm usually a 4 to 6oz kinda guy.
The recipe for veg drinks is far more important to enjoying it than I ever gave it credit for. Before i was drinking them like medicine. This will keep me alive and help me lose weight was the mantra. The idea of enjoying the veg drink without resorting to a ton of sweet fruits never crossed my mind. Hence the Beyond good and Evil brews I've mentioned in the past. Now I can actually look forward to a tasty veggie cocktail. This is blowing my mind because all V8 and other vegetable drinks have been totally nasty to my taste buds in the past.
Winner!

Back on track after a brief detour...
So I coasted for quite a bit there hovering around the 270lbs plateau. That level seemed to be made of granite. I didn't eat any meat, and I slacked off in the exercise dept. I was bouncing between 270 - 275 and starting to get bummed out about it. You can still gain weight on a vegetarian diet. Boo!
On a train back from a visit to my buddy for his 40th Birthday, I had the best veggieburger I've ever tasted. This lifestyle change isn't going to be a problem. Man I love those Trader Joes Lentil Wraps.
So today is my second day juicing straight and I find myself wondering why it took me so long to get back on program. I weighed myself this morning and Boom! The scale was below 270lbs just like that!. Time to make up for lost time.
My revised fast goes something like this...
#1 No snacks at work.
The first time I did this I loaded up on nuts and fruit and a bunch of stuff to nibble on. Not needed! That was all mental. I don't need to constantly chew stuff to make up for not eating meals. I will drink my way to good health. I'll have a prune or some grapes at home but I won't shuttle stuff around.
#2 More Veg, Less Fruit.
I like the green leafy drink better when I don't sweeten it with apple. I'm wiping the lipstick off the pig.
#3 Find Alternatives to Home Juicing.
I played around a bit with Robecks,Jamba Juice, and Just Juice It. These stores sell candy. I was psyched to see a Kale drink at Robecks only to be shocked to find it tasted more like pineapple than anything else. It was just looked green. Today I found a place in Glendale called "Da Juice Bar". That's where you can get the real deal. I got the Veggie Cocktail with Kale, Spinach, Parsley, Celery, Carrot, Beet, Bell-Pepper, Lemon, Tomato, Onion, and Garlic. It was De-lish!
#4 Supplements.
I've got the B-12 drops and the fiber powders at the ready.
Sept 17th is coming up quick and I've got a long way to go still.

Long time, no entry.
I haven't gone off my diet. Well... that's not so true. I haven't been juicing to the degree I was at the start. I've been eating vegan and attempting to roll more exercise into the mix. I've had no problem maintaining this new threshold of about 30lbs lighter. It's been great! But it's time to move on to a new level.
Our big summer cookout is today. This is the one where the girlfriend goes nutty and cleans everything she cans while cooking to feed an army. Our Sous Vide oven has been water bathing ribs at a low slow heat for 48 hours. They should fall off the bone. All the bacon wrapped filet mignon I bought before starting this diet is going on the grill. I'm not going to break the meat ban, but I'm not going to stick to the diet either. I've bought some Nut-Thins crackers and I intend to nosh on some hummus with abandon.
I'm also making a homemade version of the Trader Joe's Spicy Lentil Wrap. The recipe called for 1/2 cup of lentils. That makes 6 wraps. I'm making a batch with 5 cups of lentils. I should have enough wraps to feed a vegan army. Fingers crossed this comes out good. Lentils are cheap and I can save a bundle if this comes out as tasty as TJoe's!
I'm feeling good and on my way to a new me.
