Well vacation is finally over, time to hit the bricks and get back on track. I'm in reasonably good shape at the moment considering my cardiovascular health and ability. I've been running regularly and engaging in some strenuous physical activities - a half marathon mud run among them, but I've been eating with complete abandon, and of course drinks on vacation didn't help. I'm going to increase my goal weight a little bit due to the amount of weight lifting I did through the early part of the year - I'm certainly stronger and have added some muscle weight on, but nothing really drastic. I think 225lbs will be a good goal for me, and will put me around 12% body fat. It is hard to assess this though because I've been through some body composition changes since I initially lost a good amount of weight. Going forward now I will be continuing on a regular exercise routine keeping a varied schedule between distance runs, interval training in the gym and outside, and weight training. It is difficult to have conflicting goals, such as strength gain and weight loss, as you often have to eat for one and sacrifice the other, but given proper rest intervals, I think I can still make some strength gains while trimming down. I guess we'll see how this goes over the next few weeks.

I have decided to not be so restrictive with my diet like I was last summer when I dropped such a large amount of weight. I am not unhappy with my current weight, but I would like to look better for the beach, so I suppose this is what has spurred me to be less of a slouch. Considering I ate ice cream 3 of the past seven days, ate some late night popcorn a couple of nights, and went out to eat twice, I am pretty happy I lost a couple of pounds. The biggest shifts that made a difference I think were making sure I ate breakfast first thing in the morning, substituting a lot of the bread and pasta out of my diet (though it makes running tough without as much energy), increasing my water intake, and keeping myself to only a glass or two of red wine at night if I'm going to have anything with alcohol in it.

I have been good about exercise in that I'm doing it on almost a daily basis. The big shift in mindset I've made is that I'm not spending such a large amount of time working out when I do it. If I go to the gym, I'm only there 30 minutes, or if I go for a run, I'm only off running a couple of miles. By decreasing quantity per session, I dislike doing it much less, and therefore am doing it more frequently. I feel like I've had a revelation! haha
