This odd 'diet' seems to be working. We are eating fairly high volume salads and vegetables on NutritionFacts.org Plant Based Diet. We are generally eating around 1,500 calories a day, but it takes a lot of green veg and fruits to get that many calories, so we are full and not starving.
He is down over 25 pounds, I'm also losing weight, but more slowly - ain't that always the way. So far, I'm down from 281 to 266.8 lbs.
We also make cookies now and again, but stay within our 1,500 calories. When we do slip up and have too much (like cookies yesterday) our total daily intake is still under 1,800.
Plus, I read that if you still have real food left in your 'gullet' by the time it gets down to the bowel, then it shuts down a second hunger system. It seems to be working.
This is the first time we have ever been able to truly make food choices, rather than some ongoing extreme effort of will over what we will be denying ourselves and what best serves our nutritional necessities.
This will likely continue as our norm.
