I've been working on general health and fitness for about a year now, with the help of this site. I've been going up (when I don't keep track) and down (when I do keep track). I'm back on the downward slide, and I'm hoping to carry this through the winter (hopefully I can afford a gym membership by then).
I've been struggling to get my boyfriend to work on his health and fitness and well. He is in the "obese" catgory (I ran his BMI, but I wouldn't call him obese, but he is very overweight), and he is not happy with his weight, but I can't get him to take care of himself. He has a gym membership but doesn't use it, and his weight is starting to affect everything. He used to be a personal trainer and, to quote him, "ripped," but after his dad died 6(? or so) years ago, he stopped working out and he definitely leads a sedentary lifestyle.
Last night he weighed himself for the first time in months, and saw that he went down 10 lbs. I congratulated him, but he wasn't happy. He was completely convinced he had lost muscle mass. I asked whether he had changed his eating habits lately, and he said he had cut out most soda and ate something healthier than McDonald's breakfast for the past two months. I told him that that alone would cause him to lose the weight, and in my head I did a cheer. I told him he should keep it up.
I'm happy to see he is making small steps to being healthier, though I do wish he would start working out. I've managed to work in healthier foods because I do the grocery shopping and don't buy a lot of junk food and I buy tons of fresh fruits and veggies. It's been kind of enlightening to see how differently our minds register things.

Back to FatSecret. Had been lurking on another calorie counting site and I realized that I should utilize both because there are aspects of both I like. Gonna be better at counting calories, I have been training for a 5K which is in 1 week, and want to sign up for another one so I have motivation to continue running. Joined a challenge starting on Monday, and just hope to keep my motivation going. I'm really hoping my work/financial side level out enough so that I can get a gym membership: preferably ASAP or at least before winter.
