28 August 2008

8/28/2008...Day Four of Walking Challenge. Pain level very low to start the day (yahoo!) so got much done early on. Need to shower & go to the market, hope there's enough left to walk the dogs too.

Weigh in with trepidation...the new high-tech scale (supposedly) arrives today! Looks like I'm a tad bit lower than yesterday...how is this possible? I know I've made all positive, smart changes to my diet, but still...the new scale will be the deciding factor.

8:00 p.m.
Overdid it for sure today. 90 minutes walking around grocery stores, 45 minutes on my feet cleaning every inch of the refrigerator (huh?), 30 minutes walking the dogs, as if I'd really get to meet Drew Barrymore (didn't I do that once before anyway??!!). At least now I can embellish the story of how Shayna got us kicked off the Whip It movie set :)

Friggin pain, though...hard to prepare dinner. Wanted to create some funky squash dish & bake some veggies; did nothing but have leftover pasta, some frozen peas...did at least make a salad & mash up an avocado. There's always tomorrow...

8/27/2008. Day three of walking challenge.

Worked most of the morning, late start for the walk (11:30). Pain level is higher than it's been (4-6), definitely thwarts my mobility. Darn! Don't understand why the pain's high today, maybe I overdid it yesterday? Either way, think I'll keep it closer to home today just in case it overwhelms me.

Finally under 150 and down another pound--yeah! Staying below my suggested calorie range really helps. Although I wonder what the new, fancy scale will show. This old thing has always been pretty reliable, but will it sync up with the new one? I'll know in a few more days...don't want to get too excited until then.

Off to walk...

I can't believe there are so many winding wooded trails within minutes from my house! How is it that I never knew this before?
Walked around the school grounds & by the ball fields, mostly just to keep off of concrete. Just by dumb luck found a path that led into some woods & from there discovered an incredible maze of paths leading in every which direction, through woods & fields of tall grass...just wonderful!

Rail-trail's got some stiff competition!

Gotta admit it was a little spooky; guess that's the big city girl in me, never stop looking over my shoulder. Next time I'll bring a whistle, and maybe a small spray can of something.

Sure wish I had a walking buddy...the dogs are too friendly.

It really helped to stay off of concrete. Soft grass & trails & after a while I forgot I even had a pinched nerve.

Pain level really intensifying as day drags on. Took the additional mg, no help. Don't understand this!

Great lunch mix today! Fresh frozen veggies, mixed together in a bowl with a bunch of spices & a tsp of grated parm...surprisingly good! Peas, baby lima beans, a couple of brussel sprouts, some green beans & pearl onions. Who'da thunk it...a 1/3 of sun-dried tomato matzo on the side & a plum for dessert. Felt full for most of the afternoon.

Dinner: the usual salad stuff...plus tri-colored rotini with Newman's own sweet onion/roasted garlic sauce, fresh broccoli, a few sliced green olives, & a 1/4 cup of shredded skim mozzarella. Total calories for the pasta only came to about 260! Not bad...

Okay, only used 947 calories...don't know how I managed that but I think I'm gonna treat myself to something. Popcorn & a movie? PB&C Dark Chocolate dreams? ICE CREAM ??!!

Tuesday, August 26 (Day Two). Pain level 2/4. Went back to the rail-trail. Walked again for 80 minutes, but slowed down the last few blocks to focus on training (they are definitely improving but when Hadara gets in that zone...). Total 3.70 miles, avg pace 2.78.

Spent 40 minutes practicing posture-enhancing exercises...getting much easier every day.

Felt surprisingly good late in the afternoon. Ran around the yard with the dogs for a short while, then did squats for 10 minutes.

5:30 Trying something new...laid on the bed & did my morning routine. Maybe (hopefully) doing it again will help keep the pain level lower throughout the evening.

Again at 9:30...helping a little bit. Pain level creeping up high.
