Day One of the 4-week stair challenge. My luck to have a 15-step staircase. Was definitely feeling it by the 4th run up, but managed all 5 plus the 2 walking.

Thankfully the dogs are too exhausted to get up from the couch; usually they're right at my heels going up or down the stairs. Will have to always do this challenge shortly after our morning walk, otherwise only a good bone will keep their attention...

LONG walk today. Climbed about 6 very steep inclines too (no poop this time!), and again wore the wrist weights. No way to truly determine the approx. amt of energy that took, but it's sure more than what the pedometer shows.

aerobic steps: 9963
aerobic miles: 5.18 -- first time over 5
aerobic minutes: 88
avg pace: 3.62 -- another first

Went back through the trails near the high school...what a wonderful maze through the woods, winding in every which direction, surrounded by lovely trees & foliage. Love how the trail occasionally exits the woods & winds through fields of tall flowers and grass, only to lead back into the woods...still can't believe I never knew this was here!

Again forgot to weigh myself this morning...maybe a good thing. I've always heard that weighing every day can work against you. Don't know, never tracked my weight before.

On to other things. Gonna be a scorcher today, best be productive before it hits.

Good day, got a lot of exercise in. Filled up on healthy stuff before going over to the party. Managed to pass on the burgers n hot dogs n all but the carrot cake was screaming my name. So that was my one decadence for the week. But so darn unhealthy, geez!

What will the scale show?

Walked the dogs again, and gave them a good 5+ minute fast run through the park, too...hope that helps offset the darn cake!

Running through the park...would not have been able to do that last year.

Woke up just as the dog was about to puke on the bed. Thank goodness for that inner radar!

Down to 146.8! Yahoo!

Walked 80 minutes this morning, a round-about way to the rail trail. Wore wrist weights for the first time (no problem except for sweat). Included a couple of long uphill climbs (leave it to Shayna to take a poop halfway up the first one!).
4.51 miles
9624 steps
84 minutes
avg 3.3

Pre-walk: 2 cups coffee, fruit n yogurt mix (what little was left), one egg-white. After walking--HUGE appetite! So glad it's a cereal day! Treated myself to a variation of the usual suspects; instead of Total I had (yummy) Oatmeal Crisp.

Afternoon...cleaning/scrubbing the kitchen; more sweat.

Bike ride, sweeping the front porch, then back to (ugh!) scrubbing the kitchen. Want to see it spotless, inside & out!

Sunday...the one day of the week I allow treats. Maybe popcorn and a movie? Considering how well I've stuck to my guns this week I think I've earned it. (8:30 p.m. already, can't bring myself to do it--maybe tomorrow?!)

Realistically I'm going to eat things like popcorn every once in a while, so I may as well do so & learn what it does to my "numbers." Realistically If I don't incorporate the occasional "not-so-healthy" foods into my diet I may end up splurging on them instead at some point, and what good is that. Better to be realistic, and learn more about them.

Biggest weaknesses:
popcorn (more so in the colder months; will stop buying microwave & go back to popping my own)
ice cream (only in the summertime, thank goodness! Switched to light, and substituting more phillyswirls)
!!CEREAL!! (still eating, but only 2-3 days a week & in moderation)
Hershey's Kisses (a couple here & there are fine, just don't keep 'em in the house anymore).
Rice (okay, after this last box of instant is gone, it's brown from now on. Again, moderation is key. Mixing in spices instead of butter & salt is also critical.)
chinese food (well, no matter what it's gonna hurt, so just limit it to a few times a year. Same goes for pizza. Eat sushi instead!)
sushi (yeah the sticky rice ain't great, but as a whole it's pretty darn near perfect.)
coffee-mate liquid creamer (flavored soy milk is a very good substitute, and soooo much healthier!)

"Middle-aged women who took at least 10,000 steps per day on average were much more likely to fall into recommended ranges for measures of body composition such as total body weight and body fat percentage, according to the results of a study published in the May 2004 issue of Medicine & Science in Sports & Exercise, the official journal of the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM)"

Minimum Dose for Moderate Fitness:

Women: Walk 2 miles in less than 30 minutes at least 3 days/week, or walk 2 miles in 30-40 minutes 5-6 days/week.

Minimum Dose for High Fitness:

Women: Walk 2 miles in less than 30 minutes 5-6 days

Good information to keep at hand. So hard to believe I'm now "middle-aged!!"

Completely forgot to weigh myself this morning! Woke up 5 minutes before I was supposed to collect JoAnn & take her to the store. Rushed around, fed everyone, took the dogs out, cleaned the cat boxes, got dressed ... only 10 minutes late!

Now I'm dressed, sipping coffee, already had my weekend breakfast...oh well. No point in doing it now.

Pain level varies between 2-4. Gonna stick to the grass & dirt paths again just in case...

...Just as it's been these past few days; walking on softer surfaces makes such a huge difference, even if it's just part of the time. Walked for 75 minutes, could've gone longer but was worried about the sun on my skin & had run out of water for the dogs (and me). SUNSCREEN & LARGER/EXTRA WATER BOTTLE.

Pedometer stats:
