Today's the 2nd day I've been TOTALLy 100% following my eating plan. Monday was the first day I haven't had at least one cocktail or glass of wine every single night in over a month. I spent the last couple weeks eating properly for the most part, but still having a few drinks every night. I was making excuses, I know...rationalizing my right to have a few drinks to cope with my sister's death. I have to focus on my goals, though. My number one goal is to take control of my health completely and do everything I can to avoid diabetes and heart disease as long as I can. That involves laying off the booze, getting exercise, and eating what I should. I'm on the right path, after all. My labwork improved greatly over the past 6 months. So I can't undo everything I've worked for. I was doing really well, then life hit me with an unbelievably difficult twist. It's time to pull myself up now. Grieving will never be 'done' - I realize that now. Buy my life DOES go on for now, and I owe it to my sister to grab MY life by the horns and live it to the fullest. That means moving my body, nourishing it with good foods, and balancing my life. I know I will have rough patches. Hell, I'll have rough patches for the rest of my life. Creating a strong baseline, healthy body will help me deal with the rest of the rough patches.
Now if I could just shake this horrid head cold...

Exercise TWICE this week so far? For me, that's a BIG deal. Monday night I went to the gym with my 16-year old and walked on the treadmill while she used the elliptical. Wednesday night, Dad went to the gym with the teenager while I stayed home with our 10-year old and played 45 minutes of Kinect games just about non-stop. We played 2-person Dance Central 2, then 3 rounds of Wipeout. So much fun, and I really got my heart pounding! I may look into getting another Kinect workout game - I tried the Biggest Loser one, but I really didn't like it all that much. I believe there are 2 or 3 other Kinect diet/exercise games out there...will need to ask around for recommendations.

Tonight's our weekly shopping night, and I've got our weekly menu and shopping list prepared. For me, planning ahead really helps with all of us sticking to a healthy eating plan.

Scale went up a little today, but I'm trying not to get discouraged. I know it will go up and down, especially with my lovely monthly visitor...
