The diet goes steady. I cheated a bit and had a Gatorade earlier today. It was either walk 200 yards in 100 degree, 100% humidity, cloudless weather to get my water while already dehydrated... or spend a buck at the machine a foot to my right and buy a gatorade. I guarantee you I sweat out every drop.

Oatmeal and orange juice
banana
steamed veggies or soup
apple
egg whites and fruit

That's my menu. Easy to stick to and easy to deal with.

I'm not seeing a physical difference but my pants are fitting looser, I've knocked the belt down another notch, and people keep telling me I look thinner (I have dimples, apparently).

I am feeling a lot better, though. I'm noticing I've got a bit more stamina, my biological clock is working like a charm (wake up at 6:00 sharp, totally awake and without the aid of coffee or an alarm clock? yes please), I'm more alert and active, and it's not taking as much food to satiate my hunger.

I've learned to eat slower so I can listen to my body when it tells me I've had enough. It's a very definite feeling I've never felt before just recently. A faint rumble that makes me feel even hungrier than before, but after 3 or 4 minutes I find myself pleasantly un-hungry without the grogginess or misery of stuffing myself.

It's all been a very rewarding experience so far. I'm noticing big physiological changes, and if I'm feeling this good after just a few days it must say a lot about the way I used to eat, eh? I can't wait to see how this works out in the long run. If I don't lose a single pound it won't matter if I can feel like this the rest of my life.

Ah, the joys of good health.

Argh... today was awful. AWFUL!

I moved out of my apartment a long time ago and the lease is out in a few days so I had to make the three hour drive to the apartment to get my stuff.

We got there and managed to shove everything in the pickup, I don't know how, though. I think my background in tetris mastery helped out a bit. Anyways, after all was said and done I was freaking starving and so thirsty I was almost out of my mind.

I was with my brother-in-law and sister (my sister who thinks my dieting is more funny than anything and my brother in law thinks I don't need to diet, just start body building), anyways after having them bitch at me for almost 20 minutes I finally agreed to go out to lunch with them. I ate a whole lot of stuff I shouldn't have and drank a whole bunch of soda. But I was hungry dammit. HUNGRY.

So I guess I'll stay on phase 1 a few days longer to make up for it. I guess a plus is that after I ate I felt nauseous and all I really wished is that I had eaten some carrots or something. I've felt pretty bad all day and think some light eating exercise tomorrow will help.

Lesson of the day: if you leave the house all day, make sure you have some snacks and a bunch of water with you or you'll work really hard and consume your weight in chicken at the command of your siblings.

I wasn't even thinking about it and weighed myself this morning. I got mad that I did it but I'm happy with the results thus far. It's been a week and I've lost 10 pounds and I've only been on the diet for 3 days. These can't be typical results, but maybe I've just been eating so bad my entire life that this is how my body is reacting. I dunno.

My family was really skeptical of me doing this diet at first. They were dismissive and almost condescending about my choice to better myself. I figure it's because none of them have been able to stick to a diet for more than a few days without grabbing a milkshake or a double cheeseburger :P

Hopefully if my results are pleasant at the end of the phase I can convince them to give it a try.

Yesterday I did end up cheating a bit. Day two and I came home for lunch to eat the rice and soup I didn't get to eat the day before. I got in and my grandmother had eaten all of it, so in a hurry and at a loss of what to eat I wrapped a piece of lean turkey in some wheat bread and headed out the door.

I'm feeling better. I got a membership to the gym so I can do other things besides walking on a treadmill and doing crunches. I'm not going to follow the book about weight lifting. I've been doing weights for years and don't see the need to stop doing it for a month.

Anyways, I'll try to remember to resist the scale when I get out of the shower in the mornings. I can already feel the diet working. The weight loss is just a side effect for me really. Portion control was my major issue and I'm starting to realize what it means to just eat until you aren't hungry rather than eat until you're stuffed.

Bring it on phase 1!
