I was a chubby kid whose mother was always pushing me to lose weight. Of course, my weight climbed over the years, with many losses along the way.

In 2006, I had enough of being an overweight man, feeling deep inside I felt like I was killing myself. I was tired of the shame of being out of control. I got some help and managed to lose 65 pounds! More importantly, I was keeping it off! I started working for that organization, running weight loss classes for large groups. I worked with 1000s of people over an 11-year period. The program worked for many people. However, it failed for the majority of our clients. It was too restrictive.

Through research, I found that habit-based, behaviour change approaches, based on the most recent scientific research, worked best for long-term results. The results are slower than those of a diet program, but they are sustainable in the long-run. Traditional approaches don't build the new habits required to maintain your new, lower weight. The most effective way to lose weight, and keep it off is to replace old habits with new habits. It takes time, because your brain prefers you to stick with whatever habits you have developed. However, over time, these new habits will also become set in your brain and will carry on after you lose the weight. Armed with this research and some formal education, I developed my one-on-one weight loss coaching program. Working one-on-one allows me to build a customized program for clients and deal with the specific issues that he/she deals with. We all learn differently and have different factors that impact our routines, habits and overall health.
