I'm going to start each day a la 'The Secret', that is I'm going to start focusing on what I'm grateful for, and not what I did wrong. So this morning I am grateful my family left just enough milk in the fridge so I can have my latte... and I am grateful we're in a position where we can afford to eat the healthy foods we enjoy.
What are you grateful for?

I ran across a show yesterday called 'The Last 10 lbs Bootcamp' and it was such a wake up call for me. The woman in this episode (1/2 hr shows) had gained about 30 lbs but wanted to get into better shape for a family reunion in one month. She was given a personal trainer and dietitian. The traineer made her do such incredilbly exhaustive workouts 6 days a week, and the dietitian emptied her fridge and stocked it with pre-portioned weekly meals so she didn't need to go to the store at all. She managed to lose 11 lbs but the best thing was how great she looked in the jeans and halter top 'party outfit' she bought. She wasn't skinny by any means, just really toned and fit looking. I NEED TO EXERCISE!!! I just have to find the time to move and sweat and make my muscles (once I find them) burn!! But I'm scared!! It's WORK!! LOL

losing 3.5 lb a week

Ok, so I bumped up a pound this week. I shouldn't be surprised because I really didn't follow the 'diet' the way I could have. I made reasonably good choices but I didn't watch everything and we had several meals out this weekend. Earlier I said I didn't care if I lost anymore but I think I actually do want to get back my shape. I'm going to be a lot more disiplined and really watch portions! I've been good about not eating breads and stuff but I could be a lot more careful about the little extras that creep into a meal. And going back for "just another little bite". Dangerous

gaining 1.2 lb a week

I think my kids are getting a little frustrated by the lack of munchies in the house. Too bad. They don't have to worry about weight at this time so they can just spend their own hard earned money on junk but for now I need to keep it out of sight. I do keep dark chocolate (86% cacao) in the cupboard at all times but luckily for me they keep their fingers off! I wonder why?! Oh well, I really like it. One or two pieces and I'm done. It doesn't cause cravings, either, like potato chips would. We have a one month baby banquet to go to tonight for my new nephew (my husband's family is Chinese) so I'll have to navigate my way around an 8 to 10 course dinner. So many hidden calories!

I'm almost feeling like I don't care if I lose another pound. I'm so much happier these days that I'm beginning to really get how closely my moods are connected to the
quality
(not quantity) of foods I eat. Being on SBD has rejuvenated my spirit and lifted that dark cloud hanging over my head. I think I was in a major rut and I was blaming the extra 10 lbs, but maybe they were symptematic of the way I was feeling about my life in general. I used to have a really exciting job but didn't have balance in my life because I worked 14 hour days and had kids at home. I feel partly like I've lost my identity and have had to reinvent myself and it's hard. Listening to everyone else's stories on this site has truly been inspiring. And an unexpected bonus has been all the humour that runs throughout the commentaries. It amazes how clearly individual personalities shine through in only a few lines. I'm only going to weigh in once a week from now on but really focus on the healthy eating because that is what's making the difference in my life and giving me the energy to move forward.
