Started the day off with a different friend and a 5-mile loop through the mountains. We had a great time and were well suited for trekking together, so hopefully I have a new hiking buddy.
On the advice of another friend, I have started the BodyBoss workouts. It is mostly HIIT and it certainly works up a sweat. I like the structure of the program so far, so we'll see how that goes. I did a BodyBoss workout today as well. I am feeling a bit limp right now.
Back to school night at the middle school tonight. I am most looking forward to meeting the science teacher the kids call the Dragon Lady. :)
I got a sous vide system for my birthday this summer and tonight I am trying a london broil in there for the first time. When I get home from the school, I plan to sear the meat and serve it up with some veggies. Hope it turns out well...

New trail kicked our butts this morning! We started out strong, but round about mile 5, when we were climbing the never-ending switchbacks, I started to flag. My hiking buddy commented, "Gulches have never been good to us!" :) It was very pretty, we saw many little critters, and the dogs had a great hike.
We survived though and I was feeling ravenous when I got home. I didn't have any interesting leftover in the fridge, sadly. I did have some small tortillas left from fish tacos the other night and I made two cheese burritos. These were half the size of what I would have usually eaten because of the small-sized tortillas. I ate them and I felt satisfied. I was pleased that I did not feel the need to stuff myself, even after all that exertion.
(Sorry, I have tried twice to upload a picture of the beautiful, fog-filled valley we overlooked this morning on the hike, but FS thinks it is invalid. :( )

I have managed to string two good days in a row. I am feeling like I have my attitude properly adjusted. I have kicked the nutty bar monkey that has been living on my back since my son suggested those for his lunch snack at the beginning of school. (I kept eating them and then buying more so we had some for his lunch then eating them, then... you get the idea!) He was not happy when I broke the news that he could no longer have those, but he managed to pick out another snack that I can resist and all is right with the world again.
It has been hot here lately, but I got a lot of hiking in last week, enough so that my dog even slowed down! After that, I thought we had better take a day off. A friend and I are trying out a new trail tomorrow, so that should be fun.
