The Protein Myth
has anyone seen the documentary "forks over knives"? i haven't eaten meat since the day i saw it! it's inspired me to become vegetarian and limit animal proteins. it showcases the author of the china study and another doctor who both followed a similar path to become/promote a plant-based diet.
i am still eating cheese and some dairy products at this time but not too many. i may eat meat again if i choose to but only if i can ensure that it's of high quality and not pumped full of chemicals and such like the average meat available in grocery stores or at restaurants. our ancestors did eat meat but not in near the amount of quantities the average american eats today. i know my grandma wasn't eating meat 3 meals a day!
i definitely recommend "forks over knives" if this is an interesting topic for you. i saw it on a special sneak peak in portland oregon. it was supposed to be coming out in march other places.

Suggestions for high protein snacks
i agree with the other suggestions. i eat light cheese sticks at least once per day. i also like the laughing cow light cheese wedges, only 35 calories! i also do hummus a lot and dip it with veggies or mini pretzels (also a fave). i always try to have my protein with some carbs so they will last longer. example: 1 hard boiled egg (75 calories) with a 1/2(50 calories) or even 1/4(25 calories) of a 100 calorie sandwich thin.

Troublesome search
i have gotten pretty used to the search function and think it is a pretty thorough database. i learned that if i want to find a specific brand i usually have better luck putting in the brand after i put what it is. for example if i want a specific brand of hummus i can search "hummus (brand)" which is a little backwards but i do usually find what i am looking for. and if that doesn't work and you want it in there ADD AWAY!!!

Eat!
i am just counting calories myself, no specific diet plan. i like that it doesn't cost me any money. WW worked for me but it can add up over time to cost a lot. i got a digital food scale, that really helps me get specific about serving size and portion control. i did some research online about calories and found that for me i should aim for about 1500-1600 calories per day to lose weight and it won't be too low. i can do a lot with this many calories but i am still pretty much eliminating processed snacks and sweets. just go online and you can find some good resources about how many calories is right for you - depends on weight, age, gender, etc.
we can be buddies! i have a long ways to go but with fatsecret i can do it!!
