61 yr old fighting the weight thing most all my life. As a teen, my weight would fluctuate between the seasons by as much as a full size difference in clothes. Made my mother nuts trying to keep me in clothes. Weighed 115 lbs when I graduated from high school and then gained 35 lbs after I got married that summer. Also, started taking "the pill" so....? Now, 40 years and 118 pounds later, I've tried many ways to lose. Sometimes with success, but never permanent. Now, somewhat jaded, I am optimistic because of a telephone app?!?

Got me a smart phone, found the calorie counter app from FatSecret, and I've lost 7 pounds in 19 days. The app makes it much easier to log what I eat, it makes me conscious of what I am putting in my mouth because it is VERY easy to log it on my phone.

My daughter is my best buddy (in life and on FatSecret). She also added the calorie counter on her phone, (after I told her about it) She wants to lose 20 pounds (little bitty thing) and sent me an invite to the Go For It challenge that starts today. 10 minutes a day, walking, I can do that.

HELP.!
Track EVERYTHING you eat. I've proven to myself that tracking is hugely important. Fat Secret has a great app for Android phones called "calorie Counter by FatSecret". makes it sooo simple to keep track EVERYWHERE of EVERYTHING. Don't only track the good things you eat, start by tracking everything. As time goes by you will naturally start to monitor what you are eating because you want to see that calorie number go down. Just START tracking - made a huge difference for me.

Any words of wisdom?
The secret - just finally facing the facts - whatever they may be - that is the secret. Everyone has their own turning point - you just have to keep working at it until you find yours. My point was creeping up on 280 lb. at the doctor's office, twice. Seeing 279 on that scale put me into a tailspin. twenty years ago I SWORE I would never weigh 200 pounds...Well, I AM NOT GOING TO HIT 300 pounds. I got a new "smart" cell phone - and found the Calorie Counter app. What a help it is. SO easy to track EVERYTHING I eat now, using the rest of the site to get started on an excercise program, finding inspiration from other successes. We are only truly accountable to ourselves, we can lie and no one will know - but our own consciousness. Don't give up, even if you have multiple "failures". The only true "failure" comes is when you give up. NEVER give up!

taking medicine and dieting
Citalapram is the generic name for Celexa. My doctor told me this drug will cause you to gain or make it harder to lose weight. So, she switched me to Welbutrin. Which is not supposed to interfer with weight loss. I haven't seen any results yet, but it's only been a month - so....Cool
