Fast food tip:
If you're like me, if I'm eating out or have to grab something on the run, I have come to know what restaurants have "stuff I can eat" and I have learned to google nutrition menus and figure out what I want in advance. I have 4 kids with busy schedules, and we live about 20-30 minutes from town, so there are a lot of evenings when we have to stay in town for some kind of school function, extra-curricular activity, church thing, etc. And we eat on the run. Unfortunately, fast food is just a weekly reality in this family. But I have discovered a very good "go to" item for me that is calorie friendly and yummy/satisfying:
Taco Bell has "al fresco" items. You can order any of their tacos (and probably burritos) "al fresco." They take out the cheese and give you pico de gallo in its place. I knew this, but...bleh. They're kind of bland. But I finally figured out that you can add things to your tacos...
So, I order chicken soft tacos al fresco (that's 140 calories each), but then with a couple of add-ins, they are so much more tasty: I ask for jalapenos and some reduced fat sour cream. That makes them creamier, spicier, more flavorful, and they are still only 160 calories each. Filling, too.
Last night was not a busy stay-in-town night, but it was a "Mom's tired and doesn't want to start cooking at 6pm when we all get home and not have dinner ready until 7 p.m. and the youngest has a book project that she's not even half-finished illustrating and Mom will be helping her get that done and it will take all evening" kind of night, so I picked up Taco Bell on the way home. Most of my crew likes the regular, normal crunchy tacos, and then I ordered my chicken soft al fresco tacos for me, and I doctored them up when I got home w/ my own jalapenos and low-fat sour cream. Not too shabby for fast food.

And...a 2-lb drop in one day. Crazy body? Crazy scale? Was my 3 lb+ gain earlier this week from all that pasta/bread I had on my indulgence Sunday (Valentine's Day)? I'm still not down to my lowest number from last week, but I *am* back in the 140's again.
Weigh-in:
148.0 lb
lost so far:
45.0 lb
still to go:
13.0 lb
Diet followed reasonably well

What the heck?!?! It's Thursday, so I'm a few days past my Sunday indulgence day, and granted, it was Valentine's Day this Sunday and I did enjoy...everything, but it is otherwise Lent, and I have actually reduced my calorie intake every other non-Sunday day...and I am back up to 150 this morning?!?!?!
My doctor did change my blood pressure meds (since I was doing so well) and removed the diuretic that I previously had. Could that be it?!
ARGH!

Oh--and I left out the most important update! On Wednesday, I became a grandmother again! New baby grandson, Samuel, was born healthy and he and mommy are doing great. So, with my first drop in weight in a month and a half and a new grandbaby boy, it's been an exciting week!

Lent is here. And Lent is what sort of kick-started my weight loss journey a year ago. I sort of struggled with what to do this year, but have an action plan. Kind of like last year, I'm "giving up" excess calories by lowering my daily calorie level. I have been allowing myself an average of 1400 per day Monday - Saturday since June-ish (with Sundays off), so during Lent, I'm going to reduce that a bit further. I'm capping it at 1250 Monday - Saturday (average), but my other restriction is no post-midnight on Saturday night/Sunday morning binges. I've been really bad about doing that, since Sunday is my eat-what-I want day. I have been known to stay up until midnight JUST SO IT WOULD BE SUNDAY and then have a feast fest after 12 a.m.
But even though Lenten Sundays are islands of respite from sacrifice, part of my Lent is to do away with the 12 a.m. binges. So, 1250 per day and no Sunday 12 a.m. binges.
As a side note--is anyone else out there as obsessed with the TLC shows "My 600 lb Life" and "Skin Tight" as I am?
