I tried to go for a jog today. Put on my brooks mobility control shoes, wrapped my left knee and headed out. Still coughing up crap so I knew it was gonna be a challenge. My knee still hurt. Well, it's not me knee, but the area behind the knee, thinking the popliteal area. Had to walk and stretch it out, so therefore mostly walked fast. Stupid injuries, I hate them. Stretching also hurt, my whole body hurts and I'm not even working out. I think I am still detoxing and getting over the chest cold.
Goal is not to give up. My plan is to go to crossfit on Monday, hopefully it will go ok. I need to stretch things out over the next 2 days and keep on stretching. My house is so cold it is difficult to loosen up.

So of course I had a New Years Resolution to eat clean (paleo) and work out enough to get in better shape and shred fat. My goals are:
short term:
1. kipping pull ups
2. push ups - my elbows/triceps are weak
3. double unders
Long term goal:
1. Complete a tough mudder
2. complete a spartan race
3. complete several short 5k-10k runs
Weight and overall health
1. Lose fat, gain strength
2. Eat clean, no wheat which I know now is the cause of my hip pain
So in order to have a goal it has to be measurable. So my short term goals are easy. Actually perform kipping pull ups. I am almost there, just need to get the timing down and build up grip strength. So lets say, do 5 uninterrupted pull ups. Same for push ups and double unders, but lets say do 10 uninterrupted. Of course 5 sets would be nice.
Long term goals are easy to measure, just do it.
Health goals are more difficult as eating is of course the majority of my health goal. I have discovered that eating badly causes me pain and depression. I also got a cold. I do have a little tolerance for the bad stuff, so an occasional cheat (not treat) is okay. But if I eat badly then the pain in my hip comes back and I start to feel crappy.
I guess my biggest issue is whether or not to eat dairy. I would like to eat kerrygold butter, occasional greek yogurt and kerrygold cheese. Paleo says no, Primal says yes, but why should I strictly follow someone elses diet plan just cause they say it is the rule? The one thing I know is that if I am going to overeat, it will be with cheese.
The one thing I know is that the term paleo is loosely followed. What caveman had access to sweet potatos and coconut oil? So I think I will make my own rules and change things up as needed. I know I can't eat wheat, but what about oatmeal? I used to eat it just fine, but I had hip issues, was it the oatmeal or the pasta? I think in an emergency situation, I might just give it a try. As far as dairy goes, I know no milk, but the occasional cheese or yogurt might just have to happen. I would rather eat clean than 100% paleo/primal. The one thing I know is listen to my body and how I feel. Gonna take measurements and weigh myself. Measurements are more important because it is more of an indication of where I am at.
Let's rock it 2013.
