Does sugar cause cancer??
I have done a bit of reasearch regarding the above statement due to some recent family and friends' comments to me while they battled cancer (and lost). The short answer seems to be no, but there are for sure contributing factors that research has identified.
The following short reference study I found to be a great unbiased and unsensationalized examination of the above question complete with information regarding diet, high GI intake risks for different sets of the population and health in general.

A couple of quotes from the article:
"Blood sugar and insulin levels in active, lean individuals typically stay in a healthy range, regardless of the amount or type of carbohydrate they eat. Unfortunately our environment now makes food very available. With so much high-calorie, tasty food, most people must make a concerted effort to stay active and lean."
"Does the GI of the diet impact cancer risk or progression?
● Research suggests clear benefits of a low GI diet for many chronic diseases. The International Scientific Consensus Summit on GI (June 2013) found convincing evidence that a low GI diet decreases risk of Type 2 Diabetes, improves blood sugar control in those with diabetes, lowers heart disease risk, and likely helps with weight management. (Search glycemic index at www.oldwayspt.org for more information).
● Studies of glycemic index and cancer risk are mixed, but do suggest a high GI diet may increase cancer risk, particularly in individuals who are overweight and/or sedentary (inactive). Both excess weight and lack of physical activity are associated with an increased risk of insulin resistance. And high GI diets have been linked to increased risk of digestive and hormonally related cancers: colorectal, liver, pancreatic, breast, endometrial and ovarian.

Some contradictions and also support between the two articles, read both (if or when you have the time) as well as comments following the articles and reference sources to get a better picture of why insulin in itself is not bad...insulin resistance, metabolic syndrom and type II diabetes however are high health risks and high glycemic index foods can certainly contribute to those risks.

A nice 31 oz. steak Bistecca shared with my better half Friday the 11th..almost a cross between a steak and a small roast. Don't usually post food pics but was inspired by @Draglist and this was a very tasty beauty.
Big calorie input day offset by a couple of high calorie output days before & after.

Still quite a bit below set weight, lots of activity in the last month coupled with unexpected (and unusual) restraint during the Holiday Season.
Still finding that about a 250 to 500 calorie "on paper" deficit keeps me pretty level body fat and weight wise... more than a 500 calorie deficit and I'll lose weight (muscle and fat) and if I average below a 250 calorie "on paper" deficit it usually translates into fat storage.
2018 Strava activity summary stats (April 1st to December 31):
• 167 activity days from April 1 to Dec 31
• most active month was August (42 hours)
• longest ride 165 km (102.5 miles)
• biggest climbing day 1,410m (4,625 ft.)
• total elevation gain 58,856m (193,097 ft.)
• total activity hours 294 (48 min. per day avg.)
• total distance 6,403km (3,978.6 miles
A lot of calories burned through the nine months too.

My favorite "gym"...
Dropped off on top of a mountain about 40kms NW of Revelstoke, BC, Canada. Getting ready to ski down steep chutes, open bowls and through lots of trees. Weather much different than my last journal post, though my biking in that post was targeted to prep me for this trip.
75k quality vertical feet skied over 3.5 days.

Up about 2 pounds since the October Italy trip but still 4 pounds down from set weight...no change in recorded weight.
Had two big bike weeks at our place on the Big Island, biking almost everyday with a bit over 30,000 ft climbed and almost 500 miles rode. Getting legs, etc. ready for ski season and first big 3 day, back country ski trip starting this coming Friday.
Intensity minutes per week while on "vacation"; Nov 12-18, 1628...Nov 19-27, 1512. Had to increase food intake a bit to keep up...also a few extra cold guiness for hydration.
Ended up adding a bike to our "Kona fleet" too, a Specialized Tarmac, lighter and more efficient than our hybrids, no gravel trails for it though. Picture of it taken near Kua bay.
