04 January 2014

Day 4 was not my best day. Today was my father's birthday which meant birthday dinner of Chinese food, followed by my mothers homemade cake. It was a family affair, so I had started with reasonable portion sizes to try and limit the damage I did, however in my family, they believe in eating a full plate. Which is fine for them, they have amazing metabolisms and are active so they actually can eat a lot. Me...not so much. At least the damage has been done for today. I did take a takeaway bag of plain fried rice home, but that isn't too bad, mostly just lots of salt.

And since I had all that food...I just biked for an hour. Which I am proud I lasted that long! I don't think I can do an hour straight every single day at the moment, my endurance is definitely not that high. But I think I will make that one of my goals. By the start of March I hope to be able to bike for an hour a day every day.

That being said...tomorrow is weigh in day. I am kinda scared that everything I have done the last 4 days will not change the number, especially after tonight. I do not know if 4 days is a significant amount of time to actually change my weight realistically. I guess I will see tomorrow morning. If it goes up...well that would be very discouraging. *hoping for a lower number*

Day 3!!! I finally lowered my sodium so its under 3000mg :) My ultimate goal is to be less than 2000, but I'm slowly getting there. Still have all the crappy unhealthy food in the fridge which makes it harder I guess. I know I should throw it out and by all healthy stuff, but I am a poor student, I HATE wasting money, even on food. Which means trying to portion it better and supplement it with healthier food. Such as the meal replacement shakes I bought today :)

AND! I only felt like dying for the first 8 minutes today when biking! I do not know how long I want to stay biking for 30 minutes for at the current tension I have it set at. Its pretty equivalent to biking up a slight incline. Enough to make you start sweating and have the heart race, but not enough to make you want to pass out after a few minutes. I am not sure if I should just start increasing the time i.e. 35 mins then 40 min etc to build up endurance, or stick with 30 minutes and increase the tension slowly to bulid muscle/burn calories that way.

Anyways today was a good day :) Just felt like sharing!

I thought I was in okay shape. I know not healthy, run a marathon shape, but able to run from a zombie (the slow traditional ones), if the need ever arose. Just spent 30 minutes on a stationary bike at a lower(not the lowest!) tension. I had a nice slow warm up for a few minutes then started to actually bike (~15mph according to my gauge). After 2 minutes I was dead. If there was a zombie horde chasing me, after 2 minutes I would have been another member of said horde. I don't know how I manged to keep going for 30 minutes, the entire time I couldn't wait for it to be over. The last few years of being an university student, sitting in lecture, sitting at a desk typing up all those assignments and labs has taken its toll. I used to love that bike, I would crank the tension and power through an hour's ride at a time and ENJOY it. This is when I was at the same weight as I am now. I have obviously lost muscle and gained fat in its place :( I am dreading getting back on that monster tomorrow. I know I must, this fat must go and it is awfully cold outside so it is the bike or nothing. But wow...this was a wake up call. 2014, you will be the year that I get back to being FIT. So I can walk up a couple of flights of stairs and not be out of breath. So maybe one day I can chase after my children if I ever have any.
