I just have to keep reminding myself: Even if I only lost a half pound each week, one year from now, I will weigh 26 pounds less than I weigh right now, which is a significant achievement. And since I am feeling really comfortable with the way I'm eating now, feeling like I could stick to this long-term, I guess I should be satisfied with a half pound per week and figure it will take two years to reach my goal... but I'll get there.
Weigh-in:
201.0 lb
lost so far:
19.0 lb
still to go:
56.0 lb
Diet followed reasonably well

I think I might be accidentally eating what's called the "volumetrics diet." I wasn't really thinking in terms of "energy density" when I started trying to shift my eating habits. What I was shooting for was raising the grams of fiber every day without eating too many calories or carbs. After I ended up in the hospital with a bowel obstruction in October 2022, I realized that I had to be very careful about eating enough fiber going forward -- if I didn't want to have to take fiber supplements 3x per day (my gastro guy's suggestion.) But apparently, what I'm doing is pretty much the volumetrics diet. I'm losing weight very very slowly -- but I am losing. And the important thing, I think, is that I feel like I could eat this way forever, and, of course, that's what I really have to do if I'm going to lose this weight and keep it off, plus get my A1C below 5.7 -- the prediabetes threshold. Right now, I'm at 6.2, which isn't horrible, but it's not good either. So I'm hoping if I keep at this, things will improve.

Life saving product that keeps you from eating something much worse: Evolved Keto Almond Butter or Hazelnut Butter Cups. These hundred calorie, low sugar, dark chocolate cups don't just substitute for Reese's they give you 5 grams of fiber, 3 grams of protein, no cholesterol, no added sugar. I am absolutely hooked and so happy to have found these. I eat one daily and it truly satisfies my cravings, but it's also pretty filling and staves off hunger.

First day in a while that I splurged so much. I had lunch with a friend -- big yummy tamale and guac, and that wouldn't have been so bad if I hadn't broken down and gotten a chocolate chip scone on the way home when I had to stop to pick up tres leches cake for friends over the weekend. (Don't worry. I wouldn't be caught dead eating leches I do not like it. It really is for friends coming to visit from Iowa, where you can't buy tres leches.) But I did pull myself together and have a small portion of baked salmon and one of my stuffed squash for dinner. Honestly, though, I think I'm still burping from lunch. Won't make that mistake again.

I don't have a pet raccoon or opossum or skunk. I have two adorable Shetland Sheepdogs.
