Okay, even though my number went up slightly, I didn't freak out. Actually I was more concerned when I dropped the two pounds in the first two days. As a veteran of these "weight wars", I know you can lose a lot at first that doesn't really give you an honest sense of how this is going to go, so again - no freak out. I will say that here on Day 4 I really began the day with a sense of "lightness". I can just tell this is going to be a success. I started yesterday cleaning out my refrigerator and freezer. Today I finished up with my pantry. Threw two huge bags out and have two big bags to donate to the Community Food Bank, so it's been a great day. Am gathering hints from all sources that are being poured out at this time of year and really enjoying reading (and trying out) the "Cook This - Not That Book" and also a YUMMY Lasagna recipe I got from this website last night. We're here to stay!

Hi all!

Okay, this Journal actually started before I began the food plan in earnest, but I'm really glad I did it that way. Following my original weigh in was a trip down to Daphne, AL to spend New Year's with my daughter and her husband (and adopt her two new adorable kittens!) Anyway, I DID NOT follow any plan there (although it was in the back of my mind!) Luckily, things didn't go too bad. When I got home and weighed myself on 1/3/11 I was the exact same 153.8 (whew - RELIEF !) I did not weigh yesterday, but was delighted to get on the scale and see two pounds down since Monday! I know you get that wonderful "honeymoon push" when you first start a plan, so I'm NOT expecting to keep that up (don't even want to, really), but I'm pleased. I joined the Challenge for "I'm Not Going To Gain It Back" (or something like that). My husband and son are both really trying to go for it too. Onward and upward!

Okay - this is really approximately Day 3 for me. I decided that I was so desperate, I could not wait until the usual January 1st to begin my Food Journey. I'm trying to be gentle with myself, but I'm got to admit that I've been VERY disappointed in myself. Back in 10/2008 I was a literal reed (for me!) I was on the verge of my 50th birthday, had run/walked in a Half Marathon and felt spectacular. I had two surgeries at the same time (shoulder and foot) and one week later had a pulmonary embolism. Everything is fine about all that, but the up shod is that I was immediately taken off my Hormone replacement therapy, and everything changed. I have been a full-time college student since September of 2009, and in that time have gained 25 pounds!!!! I should not be this shallow, but this weight gain effects me every single day. I have finished the "book part" of my education, and now only have 16 weeks of Fieldwork left till graduation, so it's time to take the bull by the horns! I've ordered "Cook This Not That" for both myself and my son; have signed on to this well-reviewed community and put the counter on my Droid. No more excuses! I welcome comments, advice or I'll be a listening ear to anyone who wants to comment. :)
