09 May 2011

Well my buddies, I am back. Thank you all so much for all your heart warming notes of concern and consolation.
Needless to say the past 3 weeks have been anything but normal. The sudden passing of my brother on Palm Sunday (4/17) at age 56 due to a massive heart attack has thrown another wake up call my way and only reemphasizes the extreme need for me to take off more of this weighty burden on my health. Combine that tragedy with the hospitalization of my husband (once again) on Easter morning really has thrown me for a loop. Hopefully, he will be coming home on Wednesday. Dear Lord, I truly have more than enough on my plate.
Too late to weigh in tonight, will jump on the scale in the morning. I did journal my food for today and tomorrow. On the positive side, I did take all my meds and vitamins while I was gone. Tried to pay some attention to what I was eating as appetite came and went sporadically. Our family and friends were so great, food kept coming constantally and no cooking on our part was required. So greatful for that. Trying to keep my 80 year old parents healthy is a full time job. My dad got pneumonia and both are on mild sedatives. I will be the executor of my brothers estate since he died without a wife or a will. There is no way either of my parents can handle that. Sadly enough my brother had met the love of his life only about 5 months ago. My heart breaks for her.
Well, that is all for tonight my friends. I will be catching up on all your journals during the week as time allows.

I am writing with an extremely heavy heart this morning. Sorry I have been among the missing these past couple of weeks. Tragedy has once again struck my family with the sudden passing of my 56 yr old brother on Palm Sunday of a massive heart attack. We are preparing to celebrate his life tomorrow and have prepared a beautiful service to do just that. To make matters even more stressful, my husband suffered a seizure on Easter morning here at my parents home and is currently in Intensive Care at the local hospital. They are working on a diagnosis and I will be working on transporting him to a hospital closer to our home once the funeral is over. His sister has flown out from Oregon to be with me and help with all of this. I love her dearly and so glad she is here. I will be back with you all next week at some point.

Happy Sunday

Back on track after that huge medication debockle last weekend. I had gained 6 lbs (not recorded) of h2o weight by not taking my BP meds. Well that is gone and I have dropped even a bit more. No worries everyone, I won't be doing that again, reminders are in place!

Yesterday was a busy day, attended a funeral of a dear family friend. Jen was 85 when she passed last week, I grew up with her six boys and my cousin married the oldest. Our families have been intertwined since my birth. What a grand celebration of her fulfilled life!! The two hour high mass flew by as it was filled with laughter, singing, reminiscing and thanking our Lord for accepting Jen into heaven. Needless to say, we ended up passing on the "feast" afterwards so no huge temptations as I anticipated. We were exhausted when we got home so my DH and I just enjoyed a quiet evening, fireplace roaring and rain storm outside.

I whipped up some of my almond flax pancakes this morning, altered the recipe a bit which I like much better than my previous. I have enough for my morning breakfasts this week.

Off to take a beautiful walk this morning, the sun is shining brightly...should be glorious!! Quick jaunt to the grocery store on my way home. Get home and journal my meals for the week. Start putting away some winter clothes, try on last years summer stuff (set aside some things to send to my buddy Evie, I haven't forgotten you hun!), figure out what clothes I am taking to the Bahamas next month. I think that is enough for the day!

Will check in later, have a marvelous Sunday everyone!
Weigh-in: 260.0 lb lost so far: 17.0 lb still to go: 100.0 lb Diet followed reasonably well

Happy Friday
Boy, I am really paying for going off my meds by accident, still tons of fluid onboard, hands and feet are very sore. Tons of green tea and asparagus at every meal today and of course boat loads of h2o to flush it out. My BP med does have a diuretic in it so that will really help too. Must get back to being mindful to the amount of sodium I am consuming. No more of the high sodium items on a daily basis. I will still try to keep the carbs around 50 NC but need to stay on top of the cholesterol (<=300g) and sodium (<=1300g) for my best health.

Guess I won't do that again, no wonder my doc was so pissed at me the last time I did it. I don't think I will tell her about this episode when I see her in a couple of weeks.
Thanks to all my buddies for the gentle butt-kicking yesterday. It really helps to have such great support from all of you!

Busy weekend ahead, family friend's funeral tomorrow we have to travel to early and be there by 9am so out of the house by 7:30. It will go all day with a reception/luncheon probably won't be home until early evening. Will make a protein shake for breakfast, probably salad and some protein at luncheon (everybody always has a salad prepared right???) It is a big Polish funeral so I would expect all the high fat ethnic items to be present. YIKES!!! That signifies a minefield for me....DANGER-DANGER! Hopefully we will be home by suppertime and can be back in my comfort zone.

have a great weekend everyone!
