02 July 2011

We had an awesome day today. Left for the beach a little later than intended but that was ok. Upon arrival we bikes for about 1/2 an hour but there were alot of people around so we ditched the bikes and took off for a walk around the salt marsh. Once done with that we hit the beach. Water was only about 70 degrees but we did get in and do some swimming, water exercising, treading water. We read and took a snooze or two and then decided to head home. Stopped and got some fresh haddock, asparagus and spinach fettuccine noodles. We had eaten pretty light throughout the day and decided we both wanted the fettuccine. I used Philadelphia cooking sauce and thinned it down pretty well with some of the pasta water and alot of lemon juice. Not something I would have every week but it fit in with today's food consumption nicely.

Wow how things have changed....An interesting observation as we were leaving the beach, a group of 4 adults and a couple of children were walking toward us, each was armed with a 2 liter bottle of orange soda and two packs of Marlboro's in hand. I quietly though to myself that it was not too many years ago that I could have been looking in the mirror at myself except I probably would have had a six pack of beer in a cooler and 3 packs of 'boros.
This year we arrived at the beach armed with bicycles, running clothes/shoes, bottled water and a couple of chobani yogurts and nutri-grain bars apiece.
again...Wow how things have changed!!
As we were driving home after about a half an hour I asked my hubby if he saw the group of people walking toward us as we were leaving. He said, "sure did, I was wondering if you did" then at the same time we both said "WOW how things have changed!!"

Hope you are all having a wonderful holiday weekend, be safe would ya?

End of June Summary

I can not believe half of the year is over. Not going to try to analyze this month too much. I really just feel like I am starting to "get back to normal" since my brother passed on 4/17 at which time I weighed 260 and I am at 251.2 today, that is -8.8 lbs in 10 weeks. I went from eating too few calories in May and totally stalling to eating too many calories for the first two weeks in June and gaining 3 lbs. Didn't feel totally derailed, but found my eating patterns and level of hunger were all over the place and I wasn't too happy about that.

Mid June I decided to make a bit of a shift to eating in a more heart healthy way which entails more complex carbs and less fat and protein than I was consuming. I have done quite a bit of research about heart disease and talked extensively with my PTP and have also commenced my own healthy heart assessment with my cardiologist. Good thing is my cholesterol and triglycerides are in great shape with daily medication. I am going to stick with this WOE for awhile. It is in line with the DASH diet (50-60% complex carbs, 25% fat and 15% protein). I will stick with 1650 - 1700 cal/day. My level of activity has also increased some, but still not where I want it to be. Currently on a seriously modified plan until I get the all go from the cardiologist next month. Just been doing some bike riding, walking and a few very light weights. No heavy cardio for now.
This month my calories averaged 1678/day and burned 2620/day for an average deficit of -941 which was better than May where my deficit was -1412/day...no wonder I stalled!

Just got myself some highlights and a short and sassy new doo today so I am feeling like a million bucks!!
DH indicated that once his ice cream is gone, he is not going to buy any more....YAHOO!! I must confess that icecream is my ultimate weakness. I LOVE it in the summer time at night after supper. I do love non-fat frozen yogurt for a replacement and skinny cow and I have become great friends but I would really like to cut it back to only a couple of times a week tops. I really need to work on that this month!!

Heading off to the beach tomorrow. The bikes are loaded in our "beach buggy". Planning on leaving around 6am after breakfast, get in a ride for about 2-3 hrs, then park our butts on the beach, read, snooze, soak up some vitamin D and maybe if the water isn't too cold will do some swimming.

Hope you all have a great holiday weekend and a productive July!

30 June 2011

Just feelin' like a burgers on the grill, glad it fits into plan for the day as I had planned on other yummy stuff but DH decided it was going to be burgers. I am not about cooking different food for each of us, after all...this is not a restaurant dang it! I can usually fit in what ever he changes his mind to so no worries. Besides, he doesn't do it that often and he has been outside doing yard work all day.
Things at the office are winding down for the long holiday and most of my peeps are on vacation for a week or two. Will be nice and quiet and I don't have to take vacation time to enjoy it. Probably will just work from home alot so I can take it slow...
Time for hair cut tomorrow, had been trying to grow out my hair to no avail. I just hate it especially now that it is getting warmer out. Going short and sassy and can't wait!!

No huge plans for the weekend, talking about going to the beach and staying over night, will see. Maybe a day boat over to Block Island or a day at Mystic Seaport. Of course, all depends on the weather.

It is burger time, gotta go out and start the grill!! Will check back in later.

Happy Hump Day

WOW what a storm last night, rain poured and the thunder and lightening sat me right up in the bed, it was so close and right over our house. Had to wake DH up for that one. I can't believe he sleeps thru those storms!! Yikes!

Had lettuce from my garden last night for supper, nice to know all organic and oh so fresh tasting! Will hate to buy lettuce at the market after crop is gone. Planting lettuce will be a must from now on. Low maintenance and I just have it in a planter box on my deck....anyone can do this! Now, just to get some tomatos off those vines and I will be all set!

Long weekend is coming up, looks like storms Sat then it may be near 90* on Sunday, I feel a beach day is in the midst! Monday will be a restful day at home with a short bike ride. We have a cute little breakfast place on our bike trail only about 10 miles away. Might ride up there for breakfast, they make some awesome homemade "healthy" choices then continue on to the lake and ride around there for awhile. No BBQ's or anything like that to attend so the food plan will probably stay pretty well on track.

End of another month is upon us, will start reviewing my month for my wrap up, take measurements, maybe some pics- although I don't feel like I have noticable progress.

Have a super day folks!
