I'm a 59 years old 6'6" and have been working on getting back in shape for 6 years I was 310lbs in 2007. I ride a bike and am serious about my weight lifting. My wife is my training partner. We are retired and enjoy being outside.

Elliptical machine and calories burned
I weigh 251 and have 11.5%body fat I train on a precor elliptica on level 12 to 14 and I burn just over 1000 cal an hour the speed is what will kick up the calories I vary my heart rate in 2 minute intervals for the first 30 minutes using the monitor on the elliptical I go from %65 to %85 of my max heart rate og 170. I'm a month short of 57 years old. I also ride my bicycle several days a weak for 2 to 4 hours and burn between 2000 and 4000 calories per ride. I also weight train 4 days a week for 1 hour maybe a bit more. I eat 3800 to 4400 calories per day over training is a valid concern an it takes many years of training to get to levels like mine.

Help with Protein
Canned Albacore and lowfat Cottage chese mixed 4 parts tuna 1 part cottage cheese make a tastee easy to eat protein 6 ounces of this mix is 171 calories 1.43 grams of fat 2 grams of carbs and 36.43 grames of protein and it taste good I have it for breakfast and and night for a snack

Does weighing daily help or hurt?
I weigh myself twice a day. In the morning and in the afternoon after I'm done working out. I weigh less in the afternoon sometimes as much a 7lbs less. I ride a bicycle sometimes three hours a day an I sweat a fair amount. I also drink 6 or 7 liters of water per day and at least 3 of them are after 8 pm. My body fat % also changes by 3% from morning to afternoon. I found that the key is weighing at the same time each day. I'm pretty close to my goal weight only 2 elusive lbs to go but I have been here for a few weeks. I try to maintain 40% protein 35% carb and 25% fat with variation of a couple % either way.
