Yesterday at Costco I was looking in the area where they have all kinds of nuts. I bought sliced almonds to put in yogurt and in salads. Then I bought a box of snack size packets of roasted, salted nuts - peanuts, almonds, and cashews. They 250 to 270 calories and 8 to 11 protein grams. Usually I snack on raw almonds or walnuts but these will be a treat and I think I can stick to one packet a day.

Today I have to go to the grocery store for brussels sprouts to try cooking in the new air fryer. Also want a bag of salad mix and maybe a couple tomatoes and avocados. My real estate agent's assistant is coming by to get some peaches from my tree. They are small 1/3 the size of a regular peach. But they are delicious. The deer have been eating dozens of them but there are still plenty. I've decided against making a peach cobbler this year.

I finally decided to step on the scale. Too many weeks of eating whatever I wanted while my house was for sale. No cooking, just picking up food for the most part. I guess it's bad when the place I get chicken strips greets me by name when I walk in. I had never had chicken strips until this past April.

Yesterday I took my house off the market. Selling in a buyer's market is not for me. There are about 4 times as many homes for sale now than a couple weeks before I put the house for sale. We have been in a miserable heat wave for about 10 days with temperatures over 100 without the typical cool off at night. I have little energy if I spend more than 2 or 3 minutes outside. I swear I saw a poor buck panting yesterday. I keep a bucket of water out for the wildlife and often see the wild turkeys drinking from it. I also keep filling up the bird bath and built in pond on the bank as the water evaporates quickly. I've seen a blue jay several times splashing in the bird bath.

I bought a compact Dash air fryer when I first listed my house. I put it in a room with my packed boxes, assuming I would soon use it in a new house. So I will find it and figure out how to use it since it won't matter if the house smells like brussels sprouts

A couple of things going on. First, my eating is really bad. I haven't stepped on the scale for over a month and guess my weight is 5 to 7 pounds higher. I want to try to stop whatever gaining I'm doing. Until I sell my house or take it off the market, the eating likely won't get much better. I currently pick up most lunches. But I can work on the snacking which has been out of control. Having a new Costco that is so easy to get to, close by and not crowded is fun for me, but dangerous. I am so focused on prices that it is hard to resist bargains. Yesterday I decided to go around 11am and get gas and a hot dog for lunch. That hot dog ended up costing me over $50! Bought cat litter and hair conditioner but also snacks. When I got home, I ate some of all the snacks. I now have in my house 4 huge packages of sweet and salty snacks. I will admit to buy a bag of Ruffles cheddar and sour cream potato chips, my latest obsession. The price was so good, but like everything at Costco, the package is HUGE! Probably 3 to 4 times the size of the party or family size bag. So this morning I woke up determined that each day I will have no more than one of the snacks, and hopefully, just one serving. So today I am trying to achieve that. One of my goals has always been to be able to have snacks in the house, but to leave them alone unless really craving something or to just have a small portion. Before I retired I took a lunch to work and usually brought one pecan sandie for a snack and it satisfied me. That all changed after retirement! So hopefully I'll get through the day as planned. But it's just after 9am! And that goal of having treats in the house is really for once I reach a maintenance weight

I am also trying to figure out what to do about my house. I'm getting more showings, 2-4 a week, but it's so hot that it is miserable for me and Bobby to get in the car and usually just drive around for an hour. Last month it wasn't hot yet, so I would take him to the park or trail to walk. My many, many years as a mortgage underwriter, loan officer and even a real estate agent taught me that homes will sell if they are priced right. And home prices seem to be diving where I live, but not where I want to move. A house about 5 doors away from me was for sale for over 6 months. They had it appraised at $650k and listed at $599k with no offers at all. They took it off the market for a month or so and now have it listed with the top agent in my neighborhood at $525k. I'm watching to see what happens there and am trying how much lower I could go with the price on my house and still be able to buy the house I want in Oregon. I've also thought about just taking the house off the market until things pick up here

Random thoughts- I was trying to figure out how i got 2 identical bruises on each forearm, about 4 inches above the wrist. One is fading but the other is really purple. I've figured out the location is exactly where a door knob or handle would be if I hit it. I vaguely remember hitting my arm on something and thinking "that's what must have happened before". I think I was half asleep and probably got up to go to the bathroom. I hate when bruises just appear.

Every day seems exactly like the day before. The only thing that is different is Monday I have to make sure the garbage cans are out. I get up between 5 and 6, drink one or 2 mugs of coffee, feed Bobby and the cats at 6 when Marco gets his insulin shot. Then I spend about an hour cleaning the house so it is ready if someone wants to see it. Then I spend 30 minutes to an hour outside pulling weeds or raking before it gets too hot to do anything. I get maybe 1-3 people a week looking at my house. Yesterday, I was hopeful because they were in my house for about 40 minutes. But so far, no offer or request to look at the house again. Around 10 or 11am I am tired. Don't do much the rest of the day unless someone is coming to look at the house. Then I get Bobby in the car and figure out where to go for about an hour. I realized my morning routine wasn't good for Bobby because I wasn't taking him for a walk. So I've started taking him for a walk around 6:30 for 30-40 minutes, I think it's about 2 miles. Then I do the house and yard work.

I am happy more people are looking at the house but am getting somewhat discouraged about it selling. I had even been thinking about taking it off the market until early next year. Then there was a fire 2 days ago, really, really too close to my house. Around 2pm I looked out the front window and it looked hazy out. So I went on to the front porch and could smell smoke and saw ash f!oating down in front of me. All my neighbors were outside trying to figure out where the fire was. I got ready to leave, got the cat and Bobby in the car (cats were meowing their heads off), then one of my neighbors said the fire was under control, no one was being evacuated. It was a brush fire and only 2 acres burned, but the response was amazing, over 80 personnel and water drops being made. So it reminded me of why I wanted to move. And it's only June! I think this summer is going to be crazy with the heat and fires.

And my knee is aching more now that the cortisone shot has worn off.

Hot, hot weather! Nearly 100 today. Just thinking about my original plan with the new house in Oregon would have had me move in April before the hot weather arrived here. But that fell apart when the new home development put everything on hold. And then my knee issues started and I didn't think about moving until I knew what to do about that. Now I'm living in a house with hardly any furniture waiting for someone to buy my house. I did buy a new dining table so I have somewhere to use my laptop beside the kitchen counter. No one had come by to see my house for well over a week and then today there were 2 showings. Bobby and I went to the park twice to kill time while the house was being shown. Way too hot for me, but Bobby is okay as long as he gets to go with me. My eating is bad again, but I'll get back on track at some point.
