In Which I Acknowledge Desperation:


So I've been getting pretty desperate in my attempts to lose these last 10 pounds, and I've decided something...

Desperation is not the answer.

Desperation was what I was doing when I was morbidly obese and grasping at straws... trying to do ANYTHING that I thought would help.

I lost over 160 pounds by eating clean, whole foods. By giving my body plenty of lean protein, healthy fats, vegetables, and fruits. My health has been invigorated. I sleep better, move better... there's no end to how much better everything is. And the thing is, the weight loss itself probably isn't the only reason. Good nutrition is, I think, the best medicine of all.

So why am I thinking about filling myself with artificial food, processed stuff... chemicals, additives... artificial sweeteners and protein powders... just to lose that last 10 pounds? Why am I throwing away good health and good nutrition, clean eating, and feeling well for being bloated, gassy, tired, achy, and having general malaise?

It doesn't make any sense, does it?

Sure I still want to lose those last 10 pounds. And I'm pretty sure I will... by doing what I was doing to lose the previous 160. It just might take a while.

Those Last Ten Pounds:


They do say the last 10 pounds are the hardest to lose, and they're not wrong.

A little background: My highest weight was around 320 pounds, in spring/early summer 2015. I have lost over 160 pounds through diet alone; I began eating Paleo. I then had a tummy tuck with full muscle repair, which was the most gnarly surgery I have ever been through in my life.

(They removed only 4 pounds of skin; the bulge there was caused by a huge diastasis recti that my intestines were actually hanging out of and in danger of herniating. It was so egregious that my insurance paid for the muscle repair and the surgery was considered reconstructive vs. cosmetic.)

So... all that being said... I still want to lose 10 more pounds. Right now I waffle between 160 and 155. I want to be waffling between 150 and 145. I am 5'9" tall and 46 years old.

There are several reasons. One, is I feel better. You wouldn't think that amount of weight would make a difference in my abdomen and the way my post-surgery abdomen feels, but it does. I can tell immediately if I've gained a few pounds. It feels tight and looks bloated. It's uncomfortable.

But hunger is uncomfortable too. Sigh.

I've been trying to lose "this last 10 pounds" for over a year and a half. It's time to get it done.
