I'm so excited! I'm starting to find what works for me - basically trying to eat healthy 80% of the time and allowing myself to enjoy the foods I love (and a litte wine onthe weekend!) in moderation! This weekend we went out to eat with friends and I had the best meal ever at Minervas. It was a grilled salmon on a bed of grilled veggies. There was a lot of olive oil so not so low cal but oh so delicious and still healthy. I even had a mini blizzard. So I definitely wasn't feeling deprived. I balanced it out with healthy meals on Sunday. I'm cutting down on the carbs and mostly eating chicken breasts, veggies, and salads. And I always have a skinny cow ice cream treat at night. I eat a lot of salads with spinach, salad greens, feta cheese, chicken breast, red grapes (or strawberries or blue berries, and almonds or pecans - very satisfying!

Well , I didn't do so well last weekend - stress eating got to me. But at least today I am back down to where I was last Friday. I had signed up for a "wellness coach" a few months ago through our state insurance plan. I forgot all about our scheduled telephone meeting until she called me on Monday! I had been eating badly all day Monday too and then she called and it really helped me to say some of my goals out loud to her. It definitely helped me get back on track. Six photo shoots in 6 days (including some big shoots like a wedding, engagment, and 2 senior photos) is way too much. Most of my goals now revolve around handling stress (even though I love this craziness of being busy with photography), getting sleep, and exercising. I also asked about a personal trainer at our wellness center. I think I will sign up for that - one of the people recommended to me is on vacation for a couple of weeks but it will be something to look forward to. Our new academic year starts the end of July. I want to be well on my way to a fresh start and healthy habits by then! I'm in Sioux Falls a couple of days next week for work - Tuesday will be a 12 hour day, but I scheduled an appt for a pedi at my favorite spa on my break - that will de-stress me!

Yesterday I made a small step towards my new healthier lifestyle. We had so much food around work yesterday (leftover from a big research symposium). I passed up the cheesecake at a late morning meeting (really, cheesecake in the morning?!?). But then there was a luncheon with leftovers so I ate with some of the faculty. I had 1/2 of a ham/cheese sandwich, fresh fruit salad and a 7 layer bar (my favorite!). I ate the etire bar and then felt guilty. And since I had a .5 lb weight gain after cutting calories and exercising the day before, I negative self talk was loud and clear - "you are never going to loose weight, you're doomed to be heavy."

But instead of just blowing it and waiting until Monday to start again, I REGROUPED! I had a healthy supper. I passed up a wine cooler at a shower planning meeting in the evening. I still had my nightly Skinny Cow Truffle Bar that makes me feel so NOT deprived, AND I lost 1 pound this morning! Woohoo! Regrouping pays off! I can hardly wait to be in the 150's on the scale! Weekends are hard but now I have extra confidence and it is going to be a very busy weekend photographing a wedding and two other photo shoots. I am going to go buy some healthy snacks and good foods that will keep me going!
