The afternoon of November 30th we found out that our 4 year old daughter, Mara, has a large brain tumor. They will not be able to remove all of it, as it has wrapped around 2 major arteries and has been there so long that it is part of her brain. It is dangerously close to the brain stem and has been partially been blocking the spinal fluid system. She already has some permanent hearing loss and slight facial paralysis on the right side. Our surgeon was very blunt with us. Our baby girl is in serious trouble and they will do what they can to help her. After her surgery on monday morning they will biopsy the tumor to determine the type of cancer they are dealing and them make a plan to try to fight what they have to leave in there with chemo and radiation. We discovered it through a CT scan that was ordered after a teacher noticed her was tilted the left...which we didn't think too much of but mentioned it to the pediatrician. It wasn't until she started vomiting in the mornings on a daily basis and then consistently for 3 days that the CT was ordered. Now my baby is going to be in a fight for her life! I may not respond or have a chance to get back online anytime soon but would appreciate any prayers you can send Mara's way. Thanks

I love a good challenge...although I'm really not competitive...I must be with myself. I'm not sure what I am doing with my diet just yet. But yesterday I challenged myself to a 500 calorie fast, AND I DID IT! It was actually fun piecing together what I could eat for the day and was surprisingly not that hungry. I have a friend on here who fasts frequently and loves it. I thought she was a little crazy, but now I get it. I also had no sugar yesterday, except the kinds found naturally in fruits and vegetables. I lived the no sugar no wheat life for a year and a half with tremendous results, but I sometimes felt deprived. Although when I hurled myself from the wagon and began to eat sugar and wheat again, nothing tasted like I remembered. It was strange. Obviously I pushed through that aversion and proceeded to gain back the 40 pounds that it had lost. :( I think this time around I will be very conscious of my sugar and wheat consumption, but not totally restrict it....hmmm...but in saying that I also know how hard it is to stay sugar-free after you have consumed some...it truly is a drug! Withdrawals, additions, cravings, the whole 9 yards!! But if I truly try to remain sugar and wheat-free most days and incorporate the fasting and add some exercise, I think it will work!
Congrats if you made it through my rambling journal and are still with me. Have a great weekend everyone!
