I've always been active, played sports, and enjoyed going to the gym for as long as I can remember. High school, college, and throughout my twenties I worked out whenever and did whatever in life. However...it all gradually slowed after hitting thirty and came to a complete stand still at 38. For the first time in my life I felt overworked and overstressed and it really scared me into making some changes. I gradually eased out of my high stress job in May of 08 and joined a gym. At that time I re-educated myself in what it means to be healthy approaching 40 and started fighting midlife with a vengeance. Presently after 1 year and 7 months I feel like I'm winning the war so to speak...

I work out at the gym Monday through Friday,do cardio everyday and sometimes even hit it on Saturdays. I have started paying particular attention to my diet something I never had to do before until now. I also am fine tuning my "cardio" so that all the "Young Bucks" in my Jui-Jitsu and Kickboxing classes don't get the best of this 40 year old!
I did a lot of calculations regarding certain percentages and have found out that I am carrying a little more bodyfat than i would like. So...I'm setting goals to get rid of "it" by this summer...May 18th to be exact. Wish me luck...

p.s...I'm really into the whole "lifting weights" thing so I might not lose all my desired weight because I might just end up gaining a lot of muscle. However...I know where the fat is on my body and have started my diary of weight loss pics to chart my progress in these troublesome areas. If in May I end up keeping a little weight I'll still be happy as long as it's blatantly obvious that I'm in shape instead of out of it. However I'll still give losing the "28" my best shot!!!

Only time will tell...

Honestly I think you need to find a support system close to home. Fatsecret is great...don't get me wrong. But if you had a friend that was into getting healthy then they might just be the extra encouragement you need to stay on track. I'de be interested in knowing what you do to "work out?"

As far as diet...well it sounds like you know what you should be eating however for whatever reason you just slip a little. Find out what it is...what circumstances are involved when your not eating clean and make adjustments. (i.e. prepare food ahead of time, don't get caught being somewhere and not having the access to the right food then making poor food choices) I'm actually a follower of eating every 3-4 hours to lose weight. I don't like to drastically cut food to shed pounds. I like my energy levels to stay at peak all the time so I try to eat small amounts of clean food every 3 hours to keep my metabolism burning high and energy levels maximum.

Sometimes it's best to jump into a health club, gym or fitness class. It gets you out of the house and when your in the middle of a roomful of people you don't get so distracted by things you would get distracted by at home.

As far as social situations...well i know your young and that usually involves drinking. Try to limit yourself or just drink diet cokes all night. Unless of course you desire to get a little tipsy then by all means go right ahead. If your young enough and your metabolism is high enough you shouldn't gain a lot of extra pounds even if you drink as long as you stay moderately active. However if you aren't active or metabolism is slower than normal then your going to have to choose what's more important to you.

Lastly...on motivation to get back into it. If money isn't an issue then might i suggest a trainer for maybe a month or two to get you motivated again. Or you might take a yoga, belly dance class, whatever just as long as it puts focus on doing something active thats enjoyable to you and gets you flowing again so to speak...

Good luck and i sincerely hope you get going again....Smile
