So...I got on the scale today and it was up. I just cannot believe it! I've been sticking to plan faithfully. I've been exercising. And my clothes fit better. Truly, I can get into things that I could not wear three weeks ago. All I can figure is that my scale was off a few weeks ago, because there is no way I gained five pounds and am shrinking. Am I going crazy? I haven't changed my workout routine (still two days of one-hour barre classes and two half-hour sessions of high-intensity interval training, plus at least 40 minutes of walking daily) so it should not be muscle gain. I'm trying not to let it discourage me, but I do confess that when I saw that number all I wanted to do was eat a pancake! I resisted, but I did eat half a mini biscotti (24 cals, 3 carbs, but fair under the circumstances!). I guess what is most disappointing is that I haven't cheated, haven't caved into temptation. I know it's a journey. I know this may be water. I know a lot of logical things, but it was like a punch in the gut. Working hard to stay the course and keep moving forward.

Yay, yay, yay! Put on a dress this morning that hasn't fit in more than a year! It's these little victories that keep me going...

I've been avoiding the scale again, even though my last encounter with it was a good one... I think I'm only going to weigh every two weeks or so, because I hate being obsessed with that number! But it's been a good few weeks, not much struggle staying on plan. And this morning I had a nice surprise: I grabbed a pair of pants out of the closet in the dark and threw them on, and they fit pretty well. I assumed they were some of my "fat pants." But when I actually checked, they are not! Such a boost to see a single-digit size! So maybe I'll be brave this week and actually step on that monster and see where I'm at...
Beautiful cool day in the desert today, with rain expected this afternoon and evening. Planning on a great day. Hoping for the same for everyone!

So, I decided I'm only going to weigh myself every two weeks. This is enough time for me to see a difference, but not to obsess about the scale (which I do). I can definitely see changes in my body and how my clothes fit, and two of the instructors at my gym mentioned it to me as well, so I'm not going to put myself through the madness of a daily (or even weekly) weigh-in. Been reading a lot of Geneen Roth lately and it's starting to sink in. I need to find a way to be at peace with food. Yesterday I was beating myself up for eating a chocolate chip cookie (hubby makes the best, and it was fresh from the oven). Then I looked at my food and activity logs and even though it blew my carb ratio for the day, I was able to see that it's probably OKAY. I was low on calories and did an intense workout earlier in the day... Gotta learn how to balance this. The good thing: I ate one. I did not think "well, I blew it, might as well have three or four." Progress!
