ElMcC's Journal, 02 October 2013

Yesterday, I thought about the diet a lot, and made plans. For instance, I am contemplating doing the pre-surgery liquid diet. My surgeon says that a lot of patients like to do that, to jump back on the band wagon. I think that it would help me get used to not eating things that I really like (e.g., corn chips, toast and ice cream).
I ordered some new soy-free (super-allergic to legumes), low-carb, high protein meal replacement powder. Over the past several months, I have spent a lot of time searching for a soy-free meal replacement powder that actually tastes OK. I found that Isopure actually sells a soy-fee meal replacement powder, but not all vendors sell it. I have tried the chocolate, and it is OK (if you use 1-scoop instead of 2). This month, I am buying the vanilla and the un-flavored. The strawberry sounded good, as it actually contains dehydrated strawberry powder. Maybe I will check that one out next month.
So far, I am replacing breakfast and an afternoon snack with shakes. Maybe I can replace an evening snack with one too, and then eat meat, veggies and fruit at lunch, dinner and other snacks.
I just keep thinking that I have to get back into the mind-set that I had 6-weeks post surgery.

Interesting about your weight loss from the sleeve. I was under the impression that it was similar to the bariatric where you continually lose until you reach your goal. Two nieces did it and both lost over 100lbs, with one of them starting to regain it. It's been an education. I thought it couldn't be gained back. Obviously it can. But she dieted and is losing again. Wishing you well on your journey.

It really depends a lot on how you follow your surgeon's directions, and your starting weight. It was interesting to me that I was the smallest patient in my surgeon's office (who hadn't had surgery yet). Also, the psychologist mentioned that it would be better to do the surgery so that I didn't run into the holidays and travel at the 3-month mark as you are still forming your habits, and stress family and travel make it very difficult to follow the directions. I have found that family is extremely difficult, because they continually want to know why you aren't eating and push bad foods at you. I have a husband who is a compulsive eater, and it is very difficult to not eat the junk that he is always buying. And travel is difficult due to the lack of suitable food being available. But, I am going to try to overcome these problems and move on with my weight loss.

You've got a lot of obstacles, don't you? Wishing you luck and glad you came to this site. Lots of people will be more than willing to help and answer questions. I considered it when I was 100lbs overweight because my insurance would cover it, but seeing what the nieces went through, I couldn't do it. Yeah, it's taken 2 years, but I've learned how to eat healthy and learned to love exercise.

Good for you! That is difficult to do. You should be proud of yourself. And thanks! I am getting excited about getting more of this weight off. I think that this site is going to help me a lot.
