I been vegan for 10 years, was on hormonal birth control for 6 years, ate vegan junk food often, gave in to eating what my immediate family would want to eat. Since I been vegan for 10 years my family wanted to eat vegan with me and ive transitioned them into vegan food and we have eaten healthy but also excessive amounts of food and processed faux meats so that no one has to miss anything per say. I personally love fruits, veggies, nuts, and cooking vegan with or without faux meats. So I’ve always served a good portion of nutritious food along with the junk. But, Ive noticed everyone else has maintained their weight even though I constantly gained so I really started to blame my birth control. I gained so much over the past 6 years so I got the birth control out of my body and started my weight loss journey. Since Going on a 500 calorie restricted diet with mostly raw foods has been crazily seeing progress in my weight in just two days!! I cant believe I’m not hungry either!! The one thing I would say is that its been tough being open about my journey and now that my family knows I’m serious about this they aren’t reacting too well. I’m getting negative feedback about how restricting calories is not good for my body, being vegan on its own is its own diet and i dont need to diet more, weighing out my meals is a joke apparently, they’re acting like they cant eat food around me, and my sister in law literally didnt even want me to cook for her because she felt bad but was all moody about me not being able to eat with her. I’m kind of stuck feeling like I know I’m doing what I want for myself and I been perfectly capable of not being tempted to eat junk but somehow its effecting the people around me. I realize its because they have been dependent on me making something for everyone and I’m just not sure on how long it’ll take for them to accept and get used to what I’m doing. Anyone else in this community gone through something similar? How did you manage through it? Encouragement would be appreciated.

You're injecting change (a diet strategy) into their lives, so there's going to be an adjustment period. Good move on ditching the junk food, and staying away from the faux meat (it's super processed, and not necessary). The junk food and snacking is probably what has sent your weight soaring, and those calories can add up. As far as the family goes, try not to underscore the fact that you're dieting and measuring stuff by talking about it constantly; it makes people feel guilty that they're not being as healthy as they could be, and they will either defend their way of eating (WOE) or attack yours. Just keep doing your new, healthy approach (you do you, and let them do them).
